Chapter 20 No Chance
In a moment, Karina and the pyronis spider’s head were consumed by the raging flames.
The air was filled with the scent of something burnt.
Upon witnessing that scene, Zareth and the other beastmen felt a tightening in their chests.
A malicious glint flashed across Avani’s eyes. Burn! Karina should die in that fire, too!
With Karina’s passing, she would be the only beastwoman left in the tribe who had awakened her
talent.
However, her joy didn’t last long.
With a thunderous crash, the pyronis spider collapsed. From within the blaze, a bewitching female figure emerged, holding a black blade in her hand. Her gaze was wild and piercing. reminiscent of a demoness bathed in fire.
“Rina.” Zareth swiftly returned to his human form and immediately approached her.
His golden beast–like eyes anxiously scanned her from head to toe, checking if she had been injured.
Aside from the bloodstains on her body that had turned black from the heat, Karina was completely unharmed. Naturally, her own flames wouldn’t burn her.
Seeing Zareth’s concerned expression, Karina lifted her left hand with a smile.
She opened her palm to reveal a fiery red beast crystal, about the size of a chicken egg.
It was the beast crystal of the Level–Two pyronis spider!
“Heyabsorbed the white wolf’s beast crystal, so you can have this Level–Two beast crystal,”
said Karina.
She only managed to defeat the pyronis spider because Zareth was covering for her at the side.
Without him, she doubted she would have been able to succeed.
Karina had a clear understanding of her own capabilities.
“I don’t… Before he could finish his sentence, Zareth’s lips were gently touched by her fair finger. “You are my beast husband, so you must listen to me.”
She had noticed Zareth’s dedication toward her and etched it deep within her heart. If we want to become stronger, we should do it together. I won’t use all the resources on myself.
That statement greatly pleased Zareth.

No other beastman could have been such a wonderful partner as he was!

Any other beastwoman would’ve used all the beast crystals in their household on herself once they awakened their talent instead of granting any to their beast husband.
I really am important to Rina! Zareth concluded in his heart, a fleeting depth of emotion flashing through his golden pupils.
Xelrik’s gaze was firmly fixed on the beast crystal in Zareth’s hand, his eyes turning red with envy.
If he could absorb that Level–Two fire–type beast crystal, his strength would surely escalate significantly.
He thought bow, if it had been him who was with Karina back then, that beast crystal would have been his!
Not only that, Karina’s Level–Three beast crystal and the two bags of beast crystals would also belong to him. At least, that was what he believed.
Likewise, Avani was consumed by a wild jealousy.
“Wait! We’re the ones who set the trap for the pyronis spider, so the beast crystal should be ours!” Avani refused to accept the situation, shouting at the two individuals who were about to leave.
The look in Zareth’s eyes turned cold. “The pyronis spider was slain by Rina, so the beast crystal is also hers.” How dare she desire to snatch away the beast crystal that Rina had specifically gifted me.
With gritted teeth and a flushed face, Avani argued, “Even so, we were the ones who wore down the pyronis spider. You were only able to kill it because of us. We’re all part of the same tribe, and you’ve already claimed so many beast crystals. What’s the harm in letting us have this one?”
Before she set out, she had fervently assured the other beastwomen that she was going to hunt the pyronis spiders.
If she returned empty–handed while Karina went back with her hands full, she would be utterly embarrassed.
“Let you have it?” Karina sneered, pausing in her tracks, and turned around. “Why should I give it to you? With your unattractive looks and unpleasant stench, do you really think you can have it?”
“You!” Avani’s face turned beet red, her ears flushing.
The beastmen nearby were also looking at her in a peculiar way.
They couldn’t believe that, after making such a fool of herself just now, Avani still had the audacity to ask Karina for the beast crystal when it was clearly Karina’s victory trophy.
Xelrik felt that Avani had completely tarnished his dignity.

Upon seeing that Xelrik had no intention of waiting for her and the other beastmen were also following him, she instantly panicked. “Xelrik! Wait for me…”
She hastily trailed behind them. Her body was marred with burns of varying degrees. So, as she ran, the pain was so intense it brought tears and mucus streaming down her face.
Yet, she was frightened of being left alone in Phantom’s Hollow, so she dared not to halt.
Karina watched the two leave with a sarcastic grin. “They fell out so quickly. I guess their bond wasn’t that deep after all.”
She thought that, in her past life, Xelrik had held Avani in the highest regard, and their bond was
strong.
It turned out the two of them were merely driven by self–interest.
“Rina, what did you just say?” Zareth approached, casting a puzzled gaze her way.
“It’s nothing. Let’s head back too.” Karina shook her head, choosing not to elaborate further. The concept of reincarnation was something she believed even Zareth would likely struggle to accept.
“All right. Let’s head home,” Zareth agreed, picking up the two large hemp bags filled with beast crystals.
The pyronis spider was devoid of flesh. Aside from the beast crystal, the rest of its body had been singed by fire and was of no use. As a result, it was discarded in the forest.
Zareth was fast, so the two of them returned to Darkvale Tribe even before Xelrik’s team did.
The setting sun bathed the earth in a golden hue, and the beasthumans who had gone hunting steadily returned.
Naturally, the pair drew a great deal of attention from the others.
“Are those two huge sacks filled with beast crystals?”
“My goodness! Did they go out to collect beast crystals? How did they manage to get so many?”
Zareth, who had always preferred to avoid drawing attention to himself, deliberately held the Level–Two beast crystal in his hand. He nonchalantly wiped away the sweat that didn’t exist on his brow with the back of his hand to show off blatantly the beast crystal to the others.
“That’s a Level–Two fire–type beast crystal!”
“They didn’t actually hunt down the pyronis spider, did they?”
Upon seeing the beast crystal, the beasthumans couldn’t help but gaze with envy. What kind of incredible luck do they have? Not only do they have so many Level–One beast crystals, but they also managed to get a Level–Two beast crystal. We’ve never seen so many beast crystals in our entire lives!

The two were far from popular within Darkvale Tribe. Thus, while their loot caused a stir. no one attempted to converse with them.
After a grueling day, covered in blood, Karina too yearned to return home early, clean herself up and rest in bed.
Before long, the two of them had returned to their new home.
Just as Karina arrived at the front door, she noticed someone sitting by the entrance.
“Draven? Aren’t you supposed to be at Briarhide Tribe? What are you doing here?” Karina asked with a hint of curiosity.
After returning yesterday. Draven set out under the cover of darkness, making his way to Briarhide Tribe..
“Karina. I’m sorry… Draven was seated at the doorway. Head lifted high, he was bawling his eyes. out. With each sob that escaped him, he wiped away his tears.
He appeared both aggrieved and guilt–ridden.
That sight left Karina and Zareth utterly bewildered.
“What happened? Get up quickly and tell me.” As Karina extended her hand, Zareth was even swifter, pulling Draven to his feet.
Draven roughly wiped his nose. Honestly, he was barely eighteen, still a handsome young man who hadn’t experienced much in life.
The thought of disappointing Karina overwhelmed him with uncontrollable emotions.
Choked with emotion, Draven stammered, “I… I went to Briarhide Tribe, but after asking every beasthuman there, they all said that Corvus wasn’t there at all. They also claimed they had never seen a beasthuman named Corvus.”
“I’m sorry I couldn’t bring Corvus back…. Please, take these beast crystals back…” As he spoke, he reluctantly pulled out the beast crystal and placed it back at the entrance.
Karina furrowed her brows, calmly asking, “Are you sure Corvus didn’t go to Briarhide Tribe?”
Draven nodded confidently. “Yes.”
Upon considering a certain possibility, Karina narrowed her eyes as her gaze turned cold.
“Zareth, come with me.” With that, she turned and headed toward the door.
Without uttering another word, Zareth trailed behind her.
“Karina, where are you guys headed?” Draven followed, looking confused.
