He took a couple of steps forward, then glanced back at the beast crystal that Karina had discarded at the entrance. Turning back, he picked up the bundle containing the beast crystal before catching up again.
Something as valuable as this shouldn’t be tossed aside just like that. I’ll return them to Karina once she’s done with her tasks.
Meanwhile, inside a wooden cabin.
Avani was nestled in Haleira’s arms, pouring out her sorrows through tears. “Mom, Karina was unbearably cruel. Not only did she steal the pyronis spider that Xelrik and I had such a hard time finding, but she also left me in this pitiful state. And, she… she has even awakened a fire–type talent…
She had extensive burns on her body. After seeing the beast doctor, she was covered in a layer of green herbal juice, making her look like a green creature.
Her once long, black hair had been reduced to short curls, which were a complete and utter disheveled mess.
Haleira’s heart ached terribly at the sight of her daughter.
Wiping her tears, she retorted, “So what if she’s awakened a fire–type talent? Does that give her the right to take my poor Ava’s pyronis spider and even burn you like this? I’ll definitely not let her off the hook!”
Every time Avani thought about how Karina had embarrassed her in public, she would quiver all over, seething with anger.
She exclaimed resentfully, “Mom, my water–type talent is too weak. I want a stronger, more powerful talent. I don’t want this worthless water–type talent anymore!”
Haleira had always spoiled her daughter, virtually granting her every request,
Hence, she promptly nodded in agreement, her face filled with adoration and concern. “All right. since your water–type talent is no good, I’ll find a way.”
After speaking, she turned to look at Aethor standing beside her.
“Look at the mess you’ve made! Last time, you let Ava suffer humiliation, and now, the talent you. gave her is not even as impressive as Karina’s. You better get Ava a new talent, and it has to be fire- type. No, it needs to be even stronger than fire!”
Only such a talent could be worthy of her precious Ava.

“It’s not that I’m unwilling to do it for you, but I’m really out of options,” Aethor gently coaxed. “Water–type talents aren’t weak and are particularly useful during the dry season. As a beastwoman, it’s enough for Ava to have a water–type talent. She should leave tasks like entering Phantom’s Hollow to the beastmen. Besides, it’s quite perilous there, isn’t it?”
Avani was far from satisfied, insisting, “I want a different talent!”

“Did you hear that? If Ava wants something, you better get it for her. Otherwise, if the other beasthumans find out about your incompetence, I wonder how you’ll continue being the chief!” she outright threatened.
The threat worked, and on top of that, Aethor’s cars were aching from all the noise by now.

A glint of joy flashed through Avani’s eyes.
However, in the next moment, the front door was kicked open from the outside with a loud bang
The chief’s wooden cabin was impermeable to light. Hence, when the door was shut, the inside was engulfed in darkness.
