Chapter 23 Was She Too Ruthless
Acthor was so shocked that he almost choked on his own astonishment.
He was absolutely certain Draven was doing this on purpose!
The other beasthumans began to cast strange looks toward Aethor, Haleira, and Avani.
Their respect for Acthor had turned into doubt.
In the
past. the mightiest of the Darkvale Tribe was just a Level–One beastman. Therefore, when it came to choosing a chief, there wasn’t much competition in terms of strength. What mattered instead was the individual’s character and sense of justice.
Therefore, it was surprising that Aethor had actually favored personal interests over justice!
For beasthumans, the reproductive ability of a beastwoman was of the utmost importance.
Hence, Aethor’s actions meant that he had deliberately misled the other beasthumans.
Now, it turned out that Corvus‘ whereabouts were unknown. Could he have been deceiving them. all along?
The beasthumans‘ eyes began to burn with anger.
If Aethor could treat Karina in such a way, who knew if they had ever been similarly deceived?
“Chief Aethor, what on earth is going on?”
“Did you conspire with Avani to tamper with her reproductive ability test results?”
“Where have you taken Corvus? You owe us and Karina an explanation today!”
Before, it was merely a speculation, but now the evidence was solid.
At that moment, everyone’s interests aligned with Karina.
The beasthumans voiced their anger vehemently..
Upon witnessing the scene, Karina glanced at Draven, her eyes filled with admiration.
Although he talked a bit too much, there were times when his gift of gab really came in handy.
Upon receiving Karina’s approval, Draven was unable to hide his delight.
“Are you going to speak up or not!”
Karina’s patience had run out, and she moved the black knife in her hand.

Then, with a brutal yank of her hand, the chief’s face was half torn away.
“Ah! I’ll talk, I’ll tell you!”
Aethor’s face contorted in pain, yet under Karina’s firm restraint, he couldn’t even move.
The other beasthumans all watched with furrowed brows.
Although they didn’t speak up for the chief, they were still filled with trepidation.
This scene was way too terrifying!
They all thought Karina was rather ruthless for doing this, yet Zareth maintained his usual
composure.
There was even a trace of heartache in his eve
eyes.
Rina must be extremely worried and furious for her to go to such lengths.
Aethor was truly despicable for causing his poor Karina such grief!
Draven also drew in a sharp breath, but it was out of surprise and nothing more.
Aethor had it coming for thinking Karina was a pushover.

In the world of beasthumans, the strong were revered. Those who were weak were subjected to bullying and oppression.
He felt that there was absolutely nothing wrong with Karina’s behavior. In fact, he even held at subtle admiration for her.
Haleira and her daughter Avani had long been frightened to the point of turning pale.
Hearing that horrific scream, Avani seemed to feel it in her own bones, her entire body trembling as if recalling unpleasant memories.
“Speak!”
Karina paused her actions, coldly fixing her gaze on Aethor.
Aethor had already gone weak in the knees and knelt down. His pale lips trembled as he spoke.
“Corvus… Corvus, he… he’s indeed not at the Briarhide Tribe. He–He’s at the Ironfur Tribe.”
The Ironfur Tribe?
Karina’s brow furrowed. That was the largest tribe on the eastern side of Phantom’s Hollow, not to mention the strongest.
The Briarhide Tribe was essentially a subsidiary of the Ironfür Tribe

“What exactly is my brother doing in the Ironfur Tribe?” Karina had a bad feeling and pressed for answers again.
“Well…”
Aethor glanced at Karina’s fierce gaze, feeling somewhat hesitant to speak.
Yet, he saw her grow impatient once more, raising the black blade in her hand.
His body shuddered, and with his eyes closed, he responded loudly, “H–He’s a beast slave at the Ironfur Tribe.”
Upon hearing this, Karina erupted in fury.
“Beast slave? You sent my elder brother there to become a beast slave? Is this what you were talking about back then? The job that could earn money to support our family, just a bit tiring?”
Beast slaves were considered even lower than the weakest beasthumans.
A beasthuman who had signed the beast slave contract could only obey their master’s words and couldn’t defy them. It was a contract even more domineering and unreasonable than the mate
contract.
He actually dared send Corvus to become a beast slave!
Feeling somewhat fearful, Aethor voiced his defense. “I really had no other choice. It wasn’t my decision to send him away, but the beasthumans from the Ironfur Tribe took a liking to him. Plus, they offered a substantial reward. When he found out, he was more than willing to go…”
“Shut your trap!”
In a fit of rage, Karina brandished her black knife, its blade rising and falling with her fury.
Aethor let out a cry of pain, clutching the side of his face as he fell to the ground and rolled
around.
A bloody ear had fallen to the side, tainting the lush green wild grass with a hue of crimson.
“If anything happens to Corvus, next time, it won’t just be your ear that’s at stake!”
Karina suppressed her murderous intent. She still needed to get clues about Corvus from the chief, so he couldn’t die yet.
Upon seeing the severed ear, the other beasthumans couldn’t help but shudder, feeling a chill run down their spines. Unconsciously, they took a small step back.
After venting her frustrations, Karina remembered that Zareth was also by her side.
She regained a bit of her sanity and turned her head, searching for him.
Chapter 23 Was She Too Ruthless
Judging from Zareth’s cold expression and furrowed brows, it seemed like he was quite. displeased with the scene.
