After getting off the plane, I finally saw my parents and my childhood friend, Felix Parker.
I hugged my parents tightly, tears welling up in my eyes.
“Sweetheart, you’ve lost so much weight. Has someone been bullying you?”
I pressed my lips together and s
my head.
“Mia, welcome back,” Felix said, smiling as he hugged me.
Meanwhile, Lucas waited at the civil affairs bureau all day without seeing any sign of me. My phone was turned off when he tried to call.
“The number you have dialed is currently switched off.”
No matter how many times he called, it was the same message.
Suddenly, panic seized his chest. He jumped up and rushed home.
Rachel was with him.
The empty house held no trace of my existence. Lucas ran into the bedroom, frantically searching.
Rachel noticed the abortion report on the living room table. While Lucas was still in the bedroom, she hid the report in her bag.
“Brother Lucas, did Sister Mia leave because she felt too ashamed? It’s all Rachel’s fault.”
Rachel’s tears came on cue, putting on a pitiful act.
“It’s okay, Rachel. It’s not your fault. If anyone’s to blame, it’s that woman for bringing this on herself.”
Lucas said this, but his heart felt empty.
Under the care of my parents and Felix, my health gradually improved.
Life without Lucas turned out to be so much easier.
I threw myself into studying and work, learning to manage our family company
My academic performance had always been outstanding, but I had neglected it for Lucas.
Every day, Felix would appear on time to accompany me in my studies.
The Anderson and Parker families had been close for generations. Felix and I were childhood sweethearts with an arranged marriage.
However, Lucas’s pursuit was too intense, and later I became solely focused on him, so I ended up destroying this arranged marriage with my
own hands.
“Mia… if…”
“Felix, I’m hungry. Let’s go get something to eat.”
Felix paused, some words ultimately left unsaid.
On the thirtieth day after my disappearance, Lucas finally couldn’t sit still anymore.
He searched everywhere I might have gone, but to no avail.
He returned home, dispirited. As soon as he entered, he saw a familiar figure standing by the window.
