CEO’s Chapter 4

Chapter

Eleanor

The application email on the screen was one of the many I received every day, I do not respond to these emails myself but I just check them and allow the secretary to do the rest

You need a vacation.Eve said rolling her eyes. I looked at the screen of my phone and my sister who looks younger than her actual age, 27 was staring at me

Her blue eyes pierced through the screen and I could connect the doting looks. I was due to visit but I just needed to finish up with work first

I think so too but I’ve got work, Eve.”

You’re such a workaholic,” she scoffed, You know you’re entitled to whichever of Dad’s company you choose to manage. You don’t have to work all day to earn a living and earn—”

And earn what?I asked with a small frown. I earn about $183,000 per year and for a company that started from scratch, I am doing pretty well

You know I didn’t mean it that way,” she dragged and I gave a nod

I know that and I know you just want me to come home and model those dresses for you”

She laughed before turning back to look at something. What’s that?Tasked, squinting

Just some mess that Abbie made. I’ll go clean it up and call you again so you both can talk. How about that?”

PerfectI answered with a proud smile. Just then a knock landed on the door and James appeared with a cup of coffee

You have no idea how much 1 need one right now,” I told him and he took a few strides to me

-Well, I’ve got you”

Thanks JamesonI took a quick sip of the cappuccino and licked my lips. Aside from my sister and exhusband, of course, James has been the only one who got it right with the type of coffee I enjoyed..

So what do we have?I asked and he adjusted his glasses. His oval face, mustache, and messy hair gave him the nerdy look but I’ve seen James without the glasses, and uhhe’s goodlooking

There’s progress with the current project but there’s another project with mouthwatering revenue that you may find interesting””

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at him. You know how I feel about taking too many projects at once.”

I do, Miss Nor but this is nothing you can’t do. You’ve handled way more difficult cases and you always solved the mysteries. Your works keep speaking for you, Ma’am, and may I mention that it’s a job all the way from NYC?”

I putted our air. Let me see the file

James handed me the yellow file and I flipped the page. looking at the content of it

HOMICIDE

Morgan Champ, 31 killed his wife after she caught him with his mistress

There was more to the story but that was all I needed to make my decision

James, I=I paused, counting my teeth with my tongue. I always avoided cases with sensitive parts like this because I feared is may trigger something in me but who cares? It was time to move on from everything that triggered me and that included facing my fears. Til take it,” I finished and saw the proud look on his face

I returned my attention to the file and searched for some information, including the name of the defense attorney representing him and my jaw dropped when I saw it. Avro Levendor

Miss Nor.” James continued without noticing the slight change in my countenance. I just let him know your response but you have to meet him yourself to finalize the rest”

My heart stopped beating for a second. Him??”

The defense attorney, be confirmed. Mr. Levendor is waiting downstairs.”

Uh?A lump formed in my throat that wouldn’t let

Is there a problem?”

swallow it easily

Definitely— but I faked a smile. Definitely not, James. 171 be out in a jiffy”

I waited until the sound of his footfalls across the pa

parquet floor faded before I nervously turned to the surveillance on the screen. I hurriedly searched through the first, second, third and there you go. Avro was in my organization, seated and waiting for who? Me

His hard, masculine lines shaped his cheekbones but I couldn’t see the color of his eyes from the screen. I was certain whatever he was wearing was a black outfit and shitI was nervous as hell

How did he find me

There’s been no trace of me I made sure to delete everything that could point back to my past with him and to my future as the owner of Dis Cover. I operated under the name Nor Brown and not Eleanor Levendor or whatever the fuck anyone would type..

It took

me years of hard work, sweat, pain, and soaked pillows to get to this point and I cannot let one appearance make all of that a waste. I cannot chicken out from a job opportunity simply because my exhusband is a party to the case. It shows weakness and I am not weak

With my phone in my hands, I turned to the rectangleshaped mirror in my office and took one last look at myself

My brown hair was curled to the finest, my lipswell painted with sharp red lipstick, and my eyes, ready to show no emotion. My slender legs adjusted well in the black pumps that matched my blazer and with a nod of certainty. I took the door by the knob and twisted it

The crisp air refreshed my insides the moment I got to the waiting area where Avro Levendor was seated. The stranger wore a black fitteddown shirt just like I had guessed and his hands were heavily ornated with the best type of gold rings. His searing energy seemed to twist everything around it but not me

Mr. Levendor,I called from behind. You’re here to see the”
