Chapter 6

As crazy as it may sound, Avro has succeeded in doing whatever he thinks he’s good at, humiliating him in my office and the crazier part? I let him.
I kept pacing around the office unsure of what else to feel. I picked up my phone to text Eve but I stopped myself midway through typing because I
knew what Eve could do.
She acts on impulse and makes the worst decisions and that’s something I cannot afford at this point.
“Miss Nort”
My heart skipped when I heard my name but it was just James standing by the doorway
“Sure.” I blurted and stripped myself of the emotions I felt a few seconds ago.
“What happened with Mr. Levendor” he asked
“Nothing. Why?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know–I just think it was really weird with the

“Don’t think about it too much. Mr. Levendor will get back to us when he’s ready. Besides, his client doesn’t seem like one who he can afford to fer down
“And you? Do you seem like someone who he can afford to lose!”
A ball formed in my throat and I pushed it down immediately, James has zero knowledge about my past and the only thing I think he should know is how to make the type of coffee I like,
“Uh, what I meant is you are such an asset to him on this case“.
“I get it.” I responded. But so is The Spies if he can get them to work with him.
Tcleared my throat, “I was just about leaving to get lunch.
“Lunch!” he queried. “It’s not en your lunchtime yet.”
“Well, a girl gotta do what a girl gora do I don’t have to wait till I’m starving to eat. James.“Without giving any more room for an argument i reached for my keys and gave a finial smile.
All I did during my drive was to text my new–found Virginia friend, Viola about how I needed to speak with her. I honestly wasn’t expecting an immediate response from someone who was working her ass out as a nurse but my phone pinged right before 1 could park in the parking lot of our Evorite restaurant
Text
Vi Til meet you in five.
“In fifteen you mean” I smiled and just unfastened my seatbelt while wondering what Avro showed up for after all these years. The chances that it wasn’t just a coincidence were beginning to haunt me and my heart skipped at the thought of what else he may actually know about me.
I have done my absolute best to keep my private life away from work. My employees know me as who I want them to know and even the media despite my fame, barely gets my picture circulated. Well, that’s a story for another day with special thanks to Vi’s brother, Dante.
There was barely any reason to but I suddenly became more conscious of my appearance after Avro’s visit to my office. I climbed out of the car after checking my makeup in the mirror.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I walked into the eatery but everything made me so damn conscious of myself. I needed to eat but glad that there was room to order a cup of coffee, I smiled and gestured to the counter.
“What would you like ma’am?” the man on the other side of the counter asked. He was a burly man with fine curly brown hair and uh–he had quite the tummy. His neatly trimmed beard was white–1 could easily tell he did that himself and it wasn’t natural
“Latte please.”
“Right on it, ma’am. Would you like anything else

I shook my head gently in disapproval. I know I said I needed lunch but I already lost my appetite and the only reason I’m here is because I need
someone to talk to
While he got to my order, I admired the place. It was a small cafe that also served as a bistro. There were a handful of early morning coffee drinkers seated on small round tables that were scattered throughout the place.
“Here you go,” the man called, from the gleaming espresso machine. “I made yours with so much love.”
“Aww. with what I just went through–I think I need this”
His laugh echoed through the place and just as I turned to find a seat, the front door opened. I was expecting to see Viola but the man who stormed inside wasn’t Vi
I breathed out immediately but it wasn’t one of relief. The one word I could use to describe this young man which still didn’t do justice to his physique will be hot. He’s tall enough and his dark skin–oh my God. Our eyes met in a quick lock and I just stared at his cool–brown eyes
He strode right to where I was and stepped into my personal space like we were supposed to have a date. “Made an order for two
“Definitely not.” I scoffed. “What are you doing here, Dante?”
He looked around. “Vi said you needed to talk and it was urgent. She did sound like you were in deep shit.” He looked around again. “But it’s just you and your coffee hmm?”

I breathed out. “Look, Dante-it’s Vi that I need to talk to.” I paused mid–realization “Wait Did
“Is this about work” D
Darte asked and I sighed again
“That’s like the sixth time you’re doing that,” he pointed out. “You know you don’t have to take that case if it’s going to get you sighing every
He had a point but this isn’t about any case–it’s about feeling what I thought I was over.
“I’m not going to ask you again,” I muttered and dropped the cup. “Where’sVE
“Over here“” someone yelled walking to us. She wasn’t in a haste but she did look like she fought three men and flew all the way here with the way her hair was scattered. “I’m sorry I’m late–1 was uh, about ten minutes away and the only person who could get here faster was Dante so I sent him but I’m here now. What’s wrong. Nor?”
I needed a moment to process both the effort they both put in to be here and the look on Dante’s face. “It’s uh—hold up, give me a second.”
