Chapter 14
“I don’t know!” Floyd Wilkinson flatly denied, a hint of panic in his eyes, avoiding eye contact. “I only saw it from a distance, I didn’t get close!”
“Really?” My brother scoffed, his eyes
filled with blatant suspicion. “Don’t
forget, there are surveillance cameras

This made Floyd Wilkinson even more
flustered. He turned his head towards
the distance, his gaze landing on
Priscilla Bates.
Panic finally appeared in Priscilla
Bates‘ eyes too, but she was shameless enough to say, “Auntie, brother, Floyd and I are truly in love. Please, don’t make him have a ghost marriage with a dead person!”
With that, she knelt directly in front of
my parents!
No one had mentioned this, yet she
spoke as if it were a fact.
Floyd Wilkinson, like a drowning man grabbing a lifeline, gradually regained his composure, his face full of disgust.
His earlier guilt and tension began to
fade with Priscilla Bates‘ help. “You

people are making me sick! Is your daughter so unwanted that she has to marry me?”
Aside from that one proposal, I had
never pressured him about marriage
again.
I don’t understand why he thinks I
can’t live without him.
But someone should know.
A fleeting smile crossed Priscilla Bates‘ face as she watched my mother, nearly fainting with rage.
“Whether what you say is true or not, we’ll investigate it thoroughly.” My brother coldly warned them.
He had never failed at anything he set
his mind to.

But some people wouldn’t let him
succeed easily.
Floyd Wilkinson still left, and I couldn’t stay with my mother any longer. I was forced to sit in the same car with the two of them.
“Does Joan have to haunt me even in death?” In the car, Floyd Wilkinson’s voice was already shaky.
His desperate question seemed to irritate Priscilla Bates.
“I don’t know either, but she often told me that no matter what,
she would marry you in this life. Otherwise… we wouldn’t have…” Priscilla Bates stammered, clinging to Floyd Wilkinson like a delicate bird.
I never said anything like that!

But my explanations have never
mattered.
As long as Floyd Wilkinson believes her, that’s enough.
“If something happened to Joan’s family, would that set you free?”
Priscilla Bates, seemingly revealing her true feelings in a moment of fear,
let slip.
I just hate that I’m a ghost who can’t touch people. Otherwise, I would have taken this bitch Priscilla Bates
away myself!
How dare they!
“No way!” Floyd Wilkinson quickly shook his head. Whether it was his
last bit of conscience or fear, he had
no intention of doing that.

Priscilla Bates looked regretful, leaning against Floyd Wilkinson’s
chest. Naturally, Floyd Wilkinson
couldn’t see anything, but I saw
everything clearly.
“I’ll find a way to contact you later. Joan’s family is full of maniacs. If they find out you let her die, your life is
over.”
She spoke softly, squeezing out
half–fake tears.
“Don’t worry, even if you end up in prison, I’ll stay here, waiting for you.”
“No, I can’t go to jail!” Floyd Wilkinson, seemingly provoked, loudly retorted.
The taxi driver had already brought
them to their destination and looked
at them with a peculiar expression.

“Maybe we’re already surrounded by Joan’s family’s spies. She’s the eldest daughter; dealing with two ordinary people like us would be a breeze for her.”
“I might have to face the consequences too. We don’t even
know if we have a future.”
Priscilla Bates didn’t care about Floyd Wilkinson’s outburst and kept talking
to herself.
What an idiot, looking at God knows what. Even if my family has money,
we follow the law!
She pushed me down the stairs, the evidence is clear, and it’s the judicial system that’d have issues if she doesn’t end up in jail!

“Prissy, I won’t let you suffer,” Floyd Wilkinson gripped Priscilla Bates’s hand tightly, as if making a promise, though his dark eyes showed a hint of
madness.
I think I know what he plans to do!
Watching him buy some melatonin and then pesticides, I desperately tried to grasp his hand and stop him from approaching my home, only to see my disgruntled brother drag him through the front door!
