“Bro, the incident today was my fault. I realized this on the way here. Joan’s
accident is my responsibility.”
Floyd Wilkinson put on an obedient look, his tone sincere, as if he were genuinely reflecting on his actions.
Being my boyfriend for so many years, my family knew about our relationship and accepted that I had proposed to him. They tacitly acknowledged Floyd Wilkinson as part of the family.
And now, he was going to exploit this
trust to commit a malicious act!
“I want to cook you all a meal. Joan loves my cooking. Consider it a small reparation, and after we eat, we can go to the apartment and investigate.”

Floyd continued speaking, leveraging my name. Tears streamed down
my mom’s face like a broken pearl
necklace, and she silently nodded in
agreement.
Since we worked at the family business, we weren’t allowed to live
together before marriage, so we hadn’t moved in together yet.
He would always prepare meals for me in a timely manner. Despite his gradual loss of affection for me, he still counted as a decent man.
I watched him busying himself in the kitchen, using his body to shield as he mixed all sorts of strange drugs into the food.
The heavy seasoning masked the taste of the drugs. Although the

dishes looked unappetizing, he had already prepared his excuse, forcing
out tears, “Auntie, Bro, I’m sorry. I was just so worried about Joan that I couldn’t control my hands.”
My brother nodded, and my mom sat at the dining table. They were usually picky eaters, but now they didn’t
seem to care as much.
It’s all my fault! It’s all my fault!
They cannot eat this! No one should
eat this!
I screamed with all my might, but no
one could hear me.
They couldn’t hear me!
Just when I was at my most
desperate, the doorbell rang suddenly.

“We’re here to investigate the death. of Ms. Joan Collins. She was pushed, and there was some struggle mid–air,” the officer said formally after showing
his credentials.
It seemed like someone had already been arrested near the patrol car. Floyd Wilkinson stood at the door, looking visibly uneasy.
“Mr. Wilkinson, we also discovered
that you were frequently seen near Ms. Collins before her death, yet you rarely had any direct interaction with
her,” the officer continued.
“Can you explain why that is? Or is there something else you know about Ms. Collins‘ death?”
The officer’s tone was calm, but his words left Floyd with no room to
argue. He opened his mouth to speak,

but the officer raised a hand to stop
him.
“You don’t need to answer now. Just
come with us for further questioning.”
Floyd was given no chance to say anything more as he was forcibly taken away.
Surveillance footage played
repeatedly before his eyes. Floyd went from firm denial to softly mumbling the same sentence over and over.
“They’re all fake. You’re all trying to confuse me.”
It was as though Priscilla Bates had drugged him, making him trust her implicitly.
Despite the solid evidence laid before him, he remained in denial.

“The surveillance video is clear, and
our investigation shows that Ms. Bates was involved with more than just
you,” the officer stated gravely, soon producing additional video stills.
I sat next to Floyd Wilkinson, distinctly feeling his despair and madness.
“They’re all fake. They’re all fake!”
“Ms. Bates herself admitted she came
close to you just to seduce and use you to kill some people.”
“This is the recording.”
Priscilla Bates’s voice played clearly
from the device. She confessed to
her crimes one by one and explained
much more.
For instance, upon learning of Floyd
Wilkinson’s condition, she specifically

bought medication that would
worsen his state.
Those drugs were addictive; Priscilla
Bates was the one who wanted to
control him.
She also revealed that she had been
jealous of me since university, envious of how easily I got what I wanted.
After entering the workforce, she was led astray and eventually became a manipulator. This wasn’t her first time driving a wedge between people, but
because it was me, she put in extra
effort.
Floyd Wilkinson sat there, stunned, overwhelmed by a despair that was greater than death.
