Chapter 7
The nurse let out a sigh and glanced at the disheveled Lucas.
“I’m not sure either. Someone came and picked her up early this morning.”
The second Lucas heard that, he shot to his feet. But before he could take more than a few steps, two Enforcers stepped into his path.
“Mr. Lucas, you’re under investigation for running a red light and driving under the influence. Please come with us.”
While Lucas was being held for DUI and reckless driving, I was lounging in the pack’s top–tier maternity center, nibbling on fresh fruit. When I got the news, I just smiled.

“So, what now? Lucas and Emily are already ruined.”
My best friend sat beside me, her eyes glassy with tears as she stared at the scar on my belly.
“I’m cutting the mate bond. I never want anything to do with that asshole again.”
I set my fork down and met her gaze, my voice calm and steady.
“This has gone too far. At this point, whether he agrees or not doesn’t even matter.”
“But… you posted those videos. You hurt them, yeah, but you hurt yourself too. Don’t you… regret it, even a little?”
She still couldn’t bring herself to watch the

footage.
Even living in the most luxurious postpartum suite in the entire pack, I could feel it–the stares, the whispers, the judgment. There was always someone watching, waiting to tear me down.
I shook my head.
“The moon doesn’t lose its beauty just because it’s behind the clouds. A woman shouldn’t be defined by the veil she wears. I did nothing wrong–so why the hell should I care what anyone thinks?”
Once I’d healed enough, I went to Pack Security. Through the glass of the visitation room, I saw Lucas sitting alone in a holding cell, looking like shit.
“Selene, I know I fucked up. Please… just

give me one more chance,” he pleaded the second he saw me, dropping to his knees like some desperate sinner.
“You used me to carry the Pup you made with Emily. You fucking filmed it. And now you think a sorry is supposed to fix all of that?”
My voice was ice–cold.
Lucas grabbed at my leg with his cuffed hands.
“Selene, please… I’ll do anything–anything- just don’t leave me.”
I looked down at his worn, hollow face, pulled a folder from my bag, and handed it to him.
“Sign everything over to me. Every last asset in your name.”

He didn’t even blink. “Okay. I’ll do it.”
I handed him the pen and watched him sign. When he finished the last line, I turned the page. He hesitated, clearly uneasy. Just as he tried to read it, I placed my hand over his.
“I’m eight months pregnant. Do you know what it feels like to have a Pup pulled out of you–completely silent? I felt him kicking inside me that afternoon. But by nightfall… he was gone. Taken out of me like he was never alive at all.”
“Stop… Selene, please. I’m sorry. This is all my fault. I swear, when I get out, I’ll make this right.”
He didn’t even read the next page. Just scrawled his name without thinking.

And without waiting for a reply, I hung up.
