Chapter 5
From the very first day I arrived, she had been picking on me, either complaining that the food wasn’t tasty or that the accommodation wasn’t good enough. She even claimed to be in pain and asked me to massage her.
I didn’t say a word. Instead, I gave her a full–body checkup and moved her into the best hospital room–using her son’s card.
As soon as she realized Eric was paying, she immediately quieted down.
I stared at the photo of Eric and Maggie in a tight embrace, with Jason standing beside them, snapping pictures.
An indescribable feeling stirred inside me.

The private investigator informed me they had been there for three days, but something felt off. I decided to check the footage from the security camera at our doorstep.
In the past, our building had been targeted by thieves, so the neighbors and I agreed to install a camera outside our doors and split the costs. I thought it would improve security, so I agreed. I even told Eric about it, but he didn’t pay much attention.

Because of this, we helped each other out, always offering support when one of us was exploited.
We’d cheer each other on when things got tough, and when the other was exhausted, we’d offer a warm cup of coffee.
When our internship ended, we were lucky enough to both be kept on as full–time employees.
The following year, we made our relationship official, and by the third year, we had saved enough for a down payment on a house and decided to get married.
However, shortly after we got married, I found out I was pregnant, and the pregnancy symptoms hit me hard. I couldn’t keep anything down.
