Chapter 6
Daisy’s eyes widened in disbelief, her face full of shock.
Her voice became sharp, almost piercing.
“He’s your son! How can you just stand by and watch him suffer without treatment?!”
“I picked him up.”
“But you’ve raised him for so many years! Viola! How can you be so heartless?!”
Daisy’s voice attracted the attention of the people around us, who started whispering in hushed tones.
I could hear the gossip spreading–how I, as a stepmother, was cruel and heartless.

The moment the child fell ill, I was willing to watch him suffer without lifting a finger.
Eden’s brows furrowed deeply, and he tried to reason with me.
“Vivi, how can you say that?”
“We’re not so poor that we can’t afford the treatment. There’s no need to…”
“My hard–earned money–why should I give it to an outsider?”
I cut him off, my tone cold.
We had known each other for so many years, and I had never spoken to him like this.
He froze for a moment, then spoke again, his voice laced with frustration.

“Viola! I really misjudged you! I never thought you could be such a cold–hearted person!”
“You won’t help? Fine, I will!”
He said it with righteous indignation, but I couldn’t help but find it laughable.
“Didn’t I already say it? My hard–earned money isn’t meant for outsiders.”
“Do you think I was only talking about Aaro?”
“The outsiders I’m referring to… include you.”
I looked at Eden, no longer hiding the mockery in my voice.
Eden’s face turned bright red, and he shakily pointed a finger at me.

His expression looked so pitiful, almost as though he were wronged.
“Viola, I’ve been married to you for four years. I know the money in this house comes from you.”
“But in all these four years, I’ve managed the household, washed your clothes, cooked for you–and yet, to you, I’m still an outsider?!”
“When we first got together, I had my job offers. But you told me you were focused on your career, so I turned them all down for you!”
“I never expected… you’d… you’d…”
Eden’s voice nearly broke as he spoke the last part.

If I hadn’t known him for so long, I might have been fooled by his act.
Yes, he had received a number of offers when we graduated from university.
But Eden had dismissed them all.
Either the salary was too low, the companies too small, or the workload simply too demanding.
In the end, he just kept rejecting them until there was nothing left he wanted.
Now, he spun it as though I had forced him into this situation.
His words triggered a wave of scorn from the crowd.
“This young woman looks so pretty, but who

knew she could be so vicious?”
“Even a dog that’s been raised for four years would have feelings. And she’s willing to let their son suffer?”
“Exactly, in this world, some people are truly worse than animals.”
I ignored the insults from the crowd, my expression calm as I continued to gaze at Eden.
“Are you done?”
“Done? Then it’s my turn.”
I pulled out the paternity test from my bag, along with photos of Daisy and Eden on their intimate dates, and slapped them onto his
face.

Eden recoiled as if he’d been struck, his face twisting with obvious displeasure.
But when he saw the photos scattered on the floor, his face drained of all color.
I crossed my arms, watching him with a smile.
“Eden, for a man like you, I guess you could say you’ve got some skill.”
“We agreed before we got married that you would handle the household while I focused on my work. You were the one who refused every job offer and stayed home, remember?”
“And now? You tricked me into raising your and your mistress’s son for four years, playing me like a fool.”

“Now, you want to turn this around and
make me pay for your son’s treatment? Keep dreaming!”
I pulled out the divorce papers, already signed, and threw them at him.
“Here’s the divorce agreement. Either you sign it, or we go to court.”
“Either way, the outcome is the same.”
“You. Leave with nothing.”
