Chapter 8
Eden’s voice was hoarse and low, sounding like he truly regretted his actions.
But I never believed people like him could truly come to understand their mistakes.
My father never did. My mother never did.
And neither would he.
“Vivi, I–I was just momentarily lost, and I made a mistake I never should have. We’ve been together for eight years. Please, give me one more chance.”
“You’ve forgotten, haven’t you? When you were just starting your business, who was there every day, taking care of you, cooking for you…”

I hadn’t forgotten.
Back then, fresh out of college, struggling with my startup, hitting one obstacle after another.
It was Eden who stayed by my side.
Comforting me during every setback.
And because of that, I later married him, pouring even more love into him, into his family.
But in this situation, his past care for me wouldn’t be enough to earn my forgiveness.
“Eden, when exactly did you and Daisy have a child?”
“Was it when you were taking care of me, or

when you were proposing to me?”
“When did you get her pregnant?”
“Was it when you decided to stay with me in our senior year, or when you brought me home to meet your parents?”
“And when did you two fall in love?”
“Was it when you comforted me, promising to give me a family, or when you held me, vowing you’d be with me forever?”
My voice was calm.
Calm enough that even I hadn’t expected it.
Eden struggled to find the words to respond.
He just cried uncontrollably on the other end of the phone.

The sound of his crying annoyed me, so I hung up immediately.
I knew Eden wouldn’t easily agree to a divorce, so the next day, I brought the medicine cans to the doctor.
After getting the prescription for the medication’s getting changed, I rushed to the hospital to find Eden.
He was in Aaro’s room, and Daisy was there
too.
Aaro probably already knew about his illness.
He lay in the hospital bed, his eyes swollen and red.
As soon as Eden saw me, he jumped up from

his chair.
In his panic, he almost tripped and fell to the floor.
“Vivi! I knew you wouldn’t ignore Aaro!”
“I’ve been at fault all along, but from now on, you’ll be Aaro’s only mother!”
Eden grabbed my hand earnestly, his voice filled with sincerity.
Even Aaro, lying in bed, looked up at me with tears in his eyes.
“Mom… Aaro missed you so much.”
“Aaro won’t steal snacks anymore, Aaro will listen to everything you say! Please don’t leave me..”

If I hadn’t heard him call Daisy “mom,” I would have likely softened.
But the truth was, Aaro had always known the truth.
How terrifying for a child not even ten years old.
I smiled at Eden, pretending to hesitate.
“But… Aaro is your and Daisy’s son, I…”
“I’m not!”
Before I could finish, Aaro interrupted me, his voice sharp and agitated.
“How could I possibly be that poor woman’s son?! You’re the only mother I have!”
“Mom! I don’t want to stay in this room! The

kid next door keeps crying, I can’t sleep…”
I glanced at Daisy.
Her face was ashen, her teeth clenched tightly on her lower lip, looking both wronged and in pain.
Yet, I couldn’t help but find it oddly captivating.
I continued, “Eden, you know my temperament. I’ve been deceived all these years, and you think I’m just supposed to let it go?”
H
Eden’s eyes lit up, and without a second thought, he yanked Daisy in front of me.
“Apologize to Vivi, now!”
“Just like this?”

I laughed lightly and spoke slowly.
Daisy looked at me, her voice so soft it seemed she might faint at any moment.
“If I apologize to you, will you help Aaro?”
I didn’t say a word, just smiled at her.
But to Daisy, my silence felt like an agreement.
She bent her knees and knelt straight down in front of me.
“Ms. Miller, it’s all my fault, every last bit of it.”
“Please, save my son.”
