Chapter 6
Since that day, I acted as though I had come to terms with the death of our child.
I stayed quietly at home, no longer crying or demanding to see the baby.
Gradually, Andy let his guard down.
I pretended to want to visit the temple in that small town, to light a lantern for our lost child as a way to say my final goodbye to her.
At first, Andy didn’t want to take me, but after my persistent pleas, he eventually agreed.
That day, I sat in the car as we returned to the town where my nightmare had begun.

As we passed the small clinic, I made a mental note of its location and calculated the time it would take to get there from the temple.
Seeing my somber expression, Andy frowned and asked, “What are you thinking about?”
I lowered my voice, “I just feel sad thinking that our baby is already in heaven.”
Hearing this, Andy pulled me into his arms to comfort me.
While leaning against his chest, I took out my phone and snapped a quick photo, immediately posting it to my social media.
Andy noticed and looked at me, puzzled. “You never post on social media. Why now?”
I smiled lightly, “If I want to move on from the

past, I need to start living differently.”
He believed me.
Sure enough, not long after the photo went live, Luna called.
Andy didn’t want to answer at first since l was right next to him, but after Luna called several more times, he grew concerned.
As soon as he answered, Luna’s panicked,, tearful voice filled the line.
“Andy, I was in a car accident. It hurts. so much, and the baby was scared. I’m terrified…
Her voice trembled, as though she had been through something truly awful.
Andy’s face suddenly changed, and his eyes

immediately filled with anxiety.
“Wait for me, I’ll come back as soon as I can.”
After hanging up, he looked at me with embarrassment..
I gently pushed him away, forcing a calm. tone. “You should go. I’ll just call a cab when I’m ready to head back.”
Andy hesitated for a moment, then finally dropped me off at the temple gate and drove away without hesitation.
As soon as he was gone, I rushed to the small clinic.
Before going in, I made sure to disguise myself a little.
The moment I stepped inside, I discreetly

pressed the recording device I had prepared in advance.
Relying on my memory, I found one of the nurses who had assisted in my delivery.
“Excuse me, I wanted to ask about a woman named Sarah who gave birth here on the night of October 5th. Did she stay in your hospital? I heard she had a baby, and I came all the way from her hometown to visit her.”
At first, the nurse didn’t want to help, but after slipping her five hundred dollars, she reluctantly agreed to check.
“Sarah? Oh, she was discharged the day after giving birth. You’re a bit too late.”
“Can you at least tell me if she had a boy or a girl? I want to buy a gift for the baby when I visit her next.”

The nurse’s eyes flickered with hesitation. After I handed her a few more bills, she finally leaned in and whispered,
“I think it was a girl–very pretty. But barely half an hour after she was born, her husband took her away.”
My grip tightened around the recorder.
That sentence broke down in my mind, rearranging itself piece by piece, exposing the truth that had been hiding beneath it, barely disguised.
My child was actually alive.
I clenched my fists, swallowing down my anger and sorrow.
After leaving the clinic, I immediately sent

a message to Jack, my lawyer friend from college.
“My husband stole my child and gave her away. How many years would that get him?”
He quickly responded with a “?“, followed by a long string of messages.
“If the evidence is solid, according to criminal law, it’s at least five to fifteen years. However, since the father is also the child’s guardian, you need irrefutable proof that it was a premeditated crime.”
I replied: “I only have a simple recording from the nurse…”
Jack: “The best evidence would be a recording of the person admitting it, a paternity test between you and the child, screenshots of your husband’s chats with

that woman, and anything else you can gather. The more evidence, the better.”
“Alright, thank you. I’ll reach you again when I have more evidence.”
