Beta Lewis frowned in shock and then glanced at my stomach.
“So that means your child is…”
I was about to speak when Cheryl interrupted me again.
“Brother Lewis, you shouldn’t ask about that. There’s nothing dignified about it.
“Besides, Zelda is also a victim; none of this is her fault.”
As she spoke, she walked over to us, her casual words seemed meant to exonerate me, but they also served as a reminder

I had been tainted by a group of rogues on the eve of our wedding and had come to bear a cursed child, increasing Beta Lewis’s disdain for me.
Sure enough, the moment Cheryl finished speaking, Beta Lewis’s gaze toward me shifted dramatically.
What had begun as sympathy from a long–awaited reunion turned into a calm detachment, as if he was looking at a complete stranger.
“Since you just had a miscarriage, you should go back to your hospital room and rest.”

Over the years, I had come to know Beta Lewis inside and out, yet his understanding of me was barely worth mentioning.
He believed whatever Cheryl said, and even though we were already separated, he shouldn’t belittle me like this.
Almost uncontrollably, I suddenly slapped him hard.
Surprised by my action, the three of us froze for a moment.
After regaining her composure, Cheryl instinctively checked Beta Lewis’s face before glaring at me in anger.

“Because he deserves it! And you and Alpha Howar do too!”
I had no mood for further conversation; at that moment, I truly wished I could go mad, driven to that point by these people!
I clenched my teeth and lunged at Cheryl, but before I could reach her, Alpha Howar swiftly kicked me to the ground.
The blow landed heavily on my abdomen, and in an instant, a wave of excruciating pain engulfed my body. I was drenched in cold sweat and could not utter a word.
Alpha Howar, however, watched me without a trace of emotion, speaking coldly.

He spoke as if it were a tremendous gift he was bestowing upon me, a stark contrast to the things he had said in the office to Cheryl.
Even more absurdly, he thought my
confrontation with Cheryl stemmed from the miscarriage.
“What nonsense about children! Do you think I want any? My uterus has already been removed by Cheryl, and Lean never bear children again!”
Alpha Howar’s pupils contracted at my words, and he replied in a low voice,

After saying this, he suddenly turned to Cheryl, realization dawning on him.
“You did that on your own?”
Beta Lewis furrowed his brow, seemingly seeking confirmation from Cheryl.
Perhaps for the first time, Cheryl encountered such scrutinizing looks from them, and her lips pursed as she feigned innocence.
“Howar, how can you believe her? She’s making false accusations against me; I never did anything like that!”

Seeing her feigned distress, Alpha Howar seemed to forget everything else and rushed to comfort her.
“We grew up together; of course, I believe you.”
Beta Lewis glanced at me and added, “That’s right, Cheryl. You’re a professional doctor; we trust you implicitly.”
Then he turned to me and said, “Zelda, I understand that you’ve harbored grievances towards me and Cheryl because of our past, but my decision to partner with Cheryl was my own. If you have any complaints, direct them at me, not at Cheryl. She is the most outstanding doctor in this pack, and her
reputation means everything to her. How can you slander her like this?”
Cheryl burst into tears at his words.

The commotion we had caused soon attracted a crowd in the hospital corridor, especially with Alpha Howar present.
His expression darkened as he stepped forward and seized my wrist.
“Apologize to Cheryl immediately and say you were wrong.”
Ignoring the pain in my abdomen, he roughly pulled me in front of Cheryl.
“Zelda, apologize for your reckless words!”

“Apologize? Why should I apologize to a murderer! You all think I’m dirty, but to me, you’re nothing but repulsive rats in a sewer, deserving scorn!”
As I spoke, I stood up, meeting Alpha Howar’s barely contained rage with my own defiance, straightening my back.
“Whether my uterus is still intact can be proven with a simple examination. Professional medical personnel and scientific instruments don’t lie.”
Hearing my words made Alpha Howar laugh out of anger.
“You think I’d continue to indulge your nonsense?”

I arched an eyebrow in challenge. “Isn’t it because you’re afraid that your little
puppet really did remove my uterus and that patients in this hospital would unite against you?”
When Alpha Howar met my gaze, he replied gravely, “Zelda, don’t try to provoke me; that tactic won’t work.”
“If it doesn’t work, then why are you afraid to let me undergo an examination?” I pressed

“Zelda, if the test results show your uterus is intact, I want you to kneel and apologize to me publicly. If you accept this condition, I can arrange the examination for you right now.”
Cheryl was baiting me, just as I had baited Alpha Howar

But after everything that had happened, I realized I had nothing left to lose. Kneeling to apologize would ruin my pride, but that didn’t matter!

“Zelda, don’t go too far!” Alpha Howar intervened once more for Cheryl.
I shot him a cold look. “As a professional doctor, isn’t it excessive to cruelly strip a woman of her reproductive rights?”
Besides, the other more terrible things she had done were still unspoken.
If I pursued this matter to the end, not only would she suffer, but Alpha Howar would
too!
Fearing he would catch on to my true emotions, I swallowed my anger and turned toward Cheryl.
“Also, I don’t trust the people you arrange.

Cheryl squinted slightly, smiling. “Of course, e, it’s reasonable for you to have those
concerns, but there aren’t many doctors who o treat patients in this whole pack…”
At that point, she paused, as if recalling something, then turned to Alpha Howar for
his opinion.
“Howar, what do you think of Tyra?”
Alpha Howar nodded without hesitation.
“Tyra is an elder of the pack and proficient in medicine; she would never fabricate anything. She’s the best choice for the examination.”

I had heard of Tyra before.
She was a respected elder in the pack, known for saving many lives in her youth, upright and kind, never showing favoritism.
When Alpha Howar first became the Alpha of this pack, she had publicly reprimanded him for a minor issue.
Most importantly, Tyra had been reclusive in recent years, rarely seen, with almost no interaction with Alpha Howar and Cheryl.
Thus, having her conduct my examination seemed indeed most appropriate.
