Chapter 10
“Why the hell did you marry Ms. Emily in the first place? If you never loved her, why destroy her life?”
“Do you even know where she is now? Did she vanish because the pain was too much for her to bear?”
“Do you think your dead brother would be proud of what you’ve done?”
Each question slammed into Lucas like a sucker punch. He felt completely exposed, his deepest wounds bleeding out in front of
everyone.
He staggered back, his legs giving way as he crashed into the coffee table. The contract to sever the mate bond slipped from his grip,

fluttering to the floor. His signature stared back at him from the paper like a cruel, mocking joke.
“No… it’s not like that…” he murmured, his voice shaking. “I never meant to hurt her. I never thought I’d really lose her…”
But the memories didn’t lie. He saw it all too clearly now–how he’d approached her in college with that lie, the day they’d gotten married, Emily’s bright smile as she looked at him, like he was her whole world. Five years of silent devotion, five years of unwavering love… and he had taken it all for granted.
What had he given her in return? Lies. Betrayal. Humiliation.
Something inside him cracked wide
open. Lucas collapsed to his knees, tears streaming down his face, perfectly framed in

the camera’s lens.
“Emily, please… I was wrong. Come back…”
The flashbulbs flickered mercilessly, capturing every second of his breakdown. The once untouchable Alpha, now reduced to nothing. Humiliated. Begging for mercy.
“I swear to God… I know I messed up. I shouldn’t have used you. I shouldn’t have hurt you like that…”
But no apology could rewind the clock. No amount of public humiliation could take back the damage he’d done.
The reporters exchanged shocked glances, too stunned to speak. No one had seen this coming–Lueas, the invincible Alpha from the Northern Pack Alliance, kneeling in front of them, begging for forgiveness.

One reporter hesitated before breaking the silence, finally asking the question that was hanging in the air. “Alpha Lucas… are you saying you really loved Ms. Emily?”
Lucas stood frozen.
Love? He’d never been asked that question before not when he used her, not when he married her out of convenience, and certainly not when she begged him to see her truly see her. He’d never once stopped to think about love.
–
Now, pain tore through his chest like broken glass, and he had no idea what this feeling was. Guilt? Regret? Or… was this what love was supposed to feel like? Too little, too late?
His lips parted, but no sound came. He didn’t

know what to say.
Then, suddenly, Sophia barged through the door, Amy right on her heels. “Lucas!” Sophia screamed, grabbing his arm. “Get up! Stop humiliating yourself!”
He shoved her away, coldly.
“Get out,” he said, his voice flat.
Sophia stood there, wide–eyed, stunned. But in the next instant, Lucas grabbed her and yanked her toward him, forcing her to kneel.
The reporters gasped, the sound of camera shutters deafening.
“You’re part of this betrayal, too,” he growled, his voice low but filled with venom. “We all betrayed Emily. If I kneel and apologize, then you should be kneeling, too.”

Sophia stood frozen, tears streaming down her face. In that moment, she realized he wasn’t just broken. He was done pretending.
With trembling strength, he kept her pinned, refusing to let her rise. His eyes were bloodshot, frantic, his gaze locked onto the nearest camera.
“Emily… I know you’re watching this somewhere right now.”
“It’s me… I’m the one who wronged you.”
“But wherever you are, I’ll find you. This time, I’ll be the one chasing you. This time, I’ll be the one who loves you.”
The room fell silent, the only sound the steady clicking of camera shutters.

Sophia’s face turned as pale as a ghost, her grip on Lucas’s arm desperate, like she was hanging on for dear life. Her nails dug into his skin, breaking through to draw blood.
“Lucas, are you insane?!” she screamed, her voice cracking as she completely broke down.
“Do you even hear yourself? We had a plan- we were on the same page-”
Lucas violently shook off her hand, glaring at her with seething fury.
“Plan? You mean the plan where you’ve been my dirty little secret, while Emily stayed behind taking care of your pups?”
Sophia opened her mouth to say something, but the words wouldn’t come. Just as
silence was about to settle again, Amy

rushed in, panic clear in her voice as she waved frantically at the Warriors.
“Get these reporters out of here! This is internal business of the Golden Crescent
Pack!”
But the Warriors didn’t move. They’d been moved by the pure love they had witnessed between their Alpha, Lucas, and Luna, Emily. The reporters weren’t backing down. So Amy held her breath, turned to the cameras, and forced a strained smile, trying to salvage what was left of their dignity.
“Don’t be fooled, everyone. My son, Alpha Lucas, isn’t like this! All of these lies… they’re the filthy inventions of that bitch Emily! She wanted Lucas to have two mates. She wanted Lucas to take care of her brother’s mate! She even begged him to father her pups in exchange!”
