I opened my mouth, ready to speak, but no sound came out. Everything went dark, and then–I lost consciousness.
When I came to, I found myself back in the bedroom, buried beneath the heavy blankets. The room was suffocatingly warm, but I couldn’t stop trembling.
“You’re awake?” Lucas was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding a cup of hot water.
“Take your medicine,” he said, as though nothing had happened. “If you were feeling unwell, why didn’t you just say so? Instead, you threw a tantrum, and this is the result.”
I turned my face away, unwilling to look at him.

“Stop being so stubborn,” he snapped, his tone sharp. “Your fever hit 120°F. Are you trying to die?”
“Wouldn’t that be convenient for you?” My voice was hoarse, barely above a whisper. Lucas’s expression shifted–guilt and a hint of concern flashed across his face. For a moment, he didn’t look like the same jerk who had shoved me into the snow earlier.
Seizing the opportunity, he grabbed my chin, forcing me to swallow the pill before bringing the cup to my lips.

I opened my eyes and finally met the gaze of the one who’d been playing her little game, pretending like she hadn’t been secretly sneaking around behind my back.
So, I said, coldly, “It was my idea. What, are you saying you’re not interested?”
My words sliced through Lucas’s rant, stopping his tirade dead in its tracks, leaving his words choking in his throat.
