Chapter 5
Amy leaned in, her voice low, almost like she was scheming.
“Once Sophia’s pregnant, we’ll just say it’s your brother’s frozen sperm. We’ll have a witch handle the IVF. No one will ever figure out the truth. It won’t hurt you or Luna Emily’s reputation one bit…”
Lucas cut her off, his voice sharp and irritated.
“Mom, I get what Emily’s done, but why the hell are you playing along with her?”
He turned to face me, his voice rising.
“This is just her throwing a tantrum because I haven’t touched her in years!”

I let out a bitter laugh, watching him like he was about to get an award for his performance.
What a joke. This marriage was beyond saving, completely rotted.
Lucas loved Sophia
that much was clear.
But for the sake of appearances, for the sake
of her so–called “reputation,” he wouldn’t sever ties with me, even going as far as making her the new Luna of the pack.
He didn’t want to be labeled the guy who left his mate for a widow. So, everything was done in secret – every betrayal, every disgusting act with me as their cover. Their shield. Their excuse.
–
“What’s so funny?” he snapped.

“Nothing,” I whispered, my voice cold and indifferent.
I pushed myself up from the bed, weak but numb, barely able to find the energy to care.
“It’s just a suggestion. Do whatever you want.”
Lucas’s face suddenly shifted. His eyes were bloodshot, rage spreading across his features, but beneath the anger, I could see something else rising: arrogance. Satisfaction.
“Since you’re being so generous,” he said coldly, throwing his arm around Sophia, “then I’ll take your advice.”
He said it with a deliberate chill, emphasizing each word as he made his announcement:

“I, Alpha Lucas, will make Sophia my second mate. After that, I’ll be taking her to Silvermoon Crest Pack for our honeymoon.” He paused, his eyes sweeping over me, a flicker of unapologetic coldness and triumph in his gaze. “As for you
-you stay here and take care of Mom. Use this time to learn how to handle a pregnant woman… and then, how to care for her pups!”
His mother grinned like a Cheshire cat, the kind of smile that sent a chill through your bones. “Oh, Lucas, that’s such a thoughtful idea. This way, Emily won’t have to watch you two together. That would break her heart.”
Sophia blushed, leaning into him, playing the role of the demure, humble woman. Her eyes sparkled with sweet, fake innocence, but I could see the pride she couldn’t quite hide.

And Lucas, without missing a beat, leaned
down and kissed her
right in front of me.
His mother shot me a wary look, clearly anticipating some kind of reaction. But I
gave her nothing. I just stared at them, my face an impenetrable mask.
That seemed to put her mind at ease. “Lucas, maybe… just tone it down a little in front of Emily, okay?” she said gently, her eyes still darting back to me.
This family… what a circus. They honestly thought I couldn’t see through all of it.
By the end of the day, Lucas had packed their bags for their honeymoon.
He couldn’t wait.
When my fever finally broke, I quietly began

my own preparations.
I had to gather evidence. Real leverage. Enough to shatter their perfect little illusion before their honeymoon even began.
That night, while Lucas was still working late at the Alpha’s Council Hall, I slipped into a place I’d never been allowed to enter. his bedroom. We’d been married five years, and I had never stepped foot in that room.
Lucas always insisted that “true Platonic love” needed boundaries. A pure, untainted emotional connection. Even his bedroom was off–limits to me – his mate.
The room was cold, sterile, like a laboratory. The walls were gray and white, completely devoid of personal touches. Just like him – distant, detached, controlled.

I searched every inch – drawers, nightstands, under the bed. Nothing.
Just as I was about to give up, my eyess caught a nearly invisible small safe tuckeed away in the corner.
I tried using Sophia’s birthday as the code,, and the lock clicked open without any resistance.
Inside were dozens of photos–maybe hundreds. Every single one was of Sophia.
At first, they were clearly taken without her knowledge: blurry, awkwardly angled shots, like someone had been watching her from a doorway or through a window. But then the vibe changed. These photos were selfies- purposefully seductive, with half–lidded eyes, parted lips, and an expression brimming with invitation.

A sickening wave crawled up my throat, but I forced myself to keep looking.
Beside the photos was a brown leather journal. I opened it. The first page was dated the day Lucas and I met.
“Met a girl today in the library. She asked if I liked Plato. The way she talked–it almost felt like she could be my sister–in–law. But I can’t think of her that way, right? I need a distraction. A mate. And Emily is just perfect for that.”
My hands shook, but I couldn’t stop myself from reading further.
“Emily is so damn naive. She doesn’t have a clue that I’m just using her. Every time I see Sophia, I have to force myself not to stare… not to touch her.”

“To prove he’s the best Alpha heir, my brother went alone to steal secrets from the rival pack. He fucked up. Got badly hurt… He’ll never know who sold him out. His beloved mate–Sophia–betrayed him.”
“Today was my brother’s funeral. I almost did something unforgivable in that damn church. Thank God Sophia was too lost in her grief to notice how disgusting I really am.”
“Emily keeps throwing herself at me. It’s pathetic. Why is this bitch always so desperate? Sophia is different. She’s still pure. She’s kept herself for my brother’s first heat.”
Tears blurred the page, and I bit down hard on my lip, feeling the sharp sting of blood. I forced myself to stay silent. Everything I had thought was love–every kind word, every

distant smile–had been a lie.
I was no longer the cover–up for their twisted lies.
