Chapter 7
At the airport, Lucas stared at his phone, his brow furrowed in frustration.
Emily used to reply instantly, but now, half an hour had passed, and there was still no word from her.
“Lucas, what’s going on?” Sophia approached, her soft body pressing gently against his arm.
“It’s nothing.” He responded quickly, snapping out of his thoughts. He shoved the phone into his pocket and forced a smile. “I was just thinking, when we get to the Silvermoon Crest Pack’s auction, what should I get you?”
But Sophia didn’t buy it. She could feel it-

his mind wasn’t on her. Her pout deepened, and the sweetness in her voice disappeared.
“You’re worried about Emily, aren’t you?”
“What? No, of course not!” Lucas snapped, his words coming out too fast, sounding unnatural.
But his gaze instinctively flicked back to his phone, then to the security checkpoint, as though he were expecting–hoping–that someone would come rushing toward him.
Just then, the boarding announcement echoed through the airport. Still, his eyes remained fixed on the crowd, scanning every face as if searching for something.
Sophia froze, then yanked her bag up from the seat with a sharp motion. “Forget it. Honeymoon’s canceled.”

“What?” He reached for her. “Sophia, don’t-”
“You’re not even here, Lucas.” Her voice was sharp, her eyes filled with unshed tears. “Since the moment we got to the airport, you’ve been glued to your phone, looking around like you’re waiting for Emily to burst in and stop you.”
“She won’t, he snapped, his voice rising. “I don’t care about her!”
His tone wasn’t as convincing as he hoped, and it was clear that he wasn’t convincing anyone.
Desperate to explain, Lucas pulled Sophia into his arms, his hands shaking. “I’m just… I’m just worried she might do something stupid when we leave.”

As he spoke, he quickly dialed his Beta’s number. “What’s Emily doing right now?”
“Alpha, Luna left early this morning… with all her things.” The Beta’s voice came through, calm but tense.
Lucas‘ expression shifted instantly. “Where did she go?”
“I’m sorry, Alpha. I don’t know, but it seems like Luna took everything. There’s nothing left in the Packhouse…”
His arms tightened around Sophia without thinking, pulling her so close that she winced.
“Easy, Lucas!” she shouted, pushing him away, her eyes now brimming with tears. “If you still care about her, just say it. Don’t take it out on me.”

“I’m sorry, Sophia, I didn’t mean it,” he apologized hastily, but his eyes were still distant, his thoughts elsewhere.
Another boarding announcement rang out.
Sophia stepped back, jerking his hand from her arm. “Lucas, this is your choice.”
“You either get on this plane with me and cut all ties with her–or you go after her. But if you do that… don’t come back to me.”
Lucas gritted his teeth, torn. He followed her toward the gate–but just as they reached the entrance, he stopped.
His fingers fumbled with his phone.
He called the Beta. “Find out which flight Emily’s booked. Now.”

As the plane began taxiing, Lucas finally received the call that made his heart skip a beat–it was his mother’s frantic voice.
“Lucas! Are you insane? You actually signed the Mate Bond termination agreement?” Amy’s voice screeched over the line. “If Emily really left, and Sophia’s pregnant, what are we supposed to do? The whole Pack will laugh at us! The Alpha’s authority will be shattered!”
Amy’s voice was filled with panic. “You need to come back and fix this! Now!”
Lucas‘ face darkened. “Mom, drop it. She’s just throwing a tantrum. I already told her I’d give her a pup–she’s not going to leave me. She won’t give up being Luna.” Even as he said the words, doubt began to creep into his mind.

After hanging up, he tried to send Emily a message, only to find that all his contacts had been blocked. A strange panic gripped his chest, and he shot up from his seat, his heart racing.
“Sir, please sit down and fasten your seatbelt,” a flight attendant gently reminded him.
“I need to get off this plane! Open the door- now!” he shouted.
Sophia grabbed his sleeve, terrified. “Lucas, are you out of your mind? We’re already on the runway!”
“Emily’s just bluffing,” she said, her voice trembling but firm. “This is her game. She knows you still care about her–she’s using that to manipulate you. If you go after her

now, she wins.”
Lucas didn’t hear her words. His eyes were wide, unseeing, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts.
For the first time, the arrogant, self–assured Alpha realized that he might have already lost the only true mate he had ever had.
