Chapter 6
The day I picked up the divorce certificate, the weather was perfect.
The sun pierced through the clouds, casting a warm glow on our skin..
Everything went smoothly. I had entrusted my lawyer to handle all the property matters.
As for the things in the villa, my personal organizer took care of everything.
My only request to them was that all items Caleb Coleman had given me be sold, and the proceeds deposited into my account.
II put the divorce papers away, looked up and said goodbye to Caleb Coleman and turned to leave.

He hurried to catch up, reaching out to grab my hand, but stopped just short of touching it.
“Scarlett, I didn’t mean to leave you waiting at the hospital last time. There were paparazzi stalking us, and it wasn’t the right time for us to be too close.”
“Are you still angry? I haven’t contacted you lately because Ivy’s been going through a lot of emotional ups and downs during her pregnancy. Plus, there are still rumors circulating online. She’s been feeling a bit depressed and is now very dependent on me, afraid I’ll leave her for you.”
“I’ve been really tired, with work and Ivy’s situation. It’s been hard to balance everything. You understand, don’t you?”

I was glad my heart had already been broken and I no longer had any expectations from him.
But that didn’t mean I didn’t upset. “So what? If I had waited for you at the hospital, not only would I have waited for you in vain, but you wouldn’t even have explained to me?”
“Do you really need to flaunt your affection for Ivy Rogers by ignoring me entirely?”
“Am I just a reference point for your love for her?”
“Have you ever considered that, with the heavy rain that day, I might have caught a cold or gotten sick?”
“Did you ever wonder why I went to the hospital?”

“No, I thought about asking you, but then Ivy wasn’t feeling well, and by the time I finished taking care of things, it was too late. Ivy said you looked fine, so you must have been visiting a friend, and I didn’t want to disturb you. I..”
I shook my head and interrupted him with a smile. “Caleb Coleman, there’s no need for any more explanations. It’s over between us.”
“It’s not over. Scarlett, we’re just temporarily separated. You go back to the capital for a while, and when Ivy has the baby…”
“No, after a few months, when the public pressure dies down, I’ll come to get you back.”
He tried to convince me, claiming he still loved me, that the divorce was something he had to do reluctantly.

But I didn’t want to hear any more. “Caleb Coleman, the divorce certificate is real, and my heartbreak is real too.”
“Do you know why I stopped contacting you? Because for me, divorce means divorce, with no chance for reconciliation.”
“After today, I hope we go our separate ways and find our own happiness.”
I had said everything I needed to say, and glanced at my phone–it was time to head to the airport.
But Caleb Coleman seemed utterly devastated.
Before, between Ivy Rogers and me, he had repeatedly chosen to abandon me for what he called his duty to repay an obligation, and

I had repeatedly forgiven him.
Therefore, It had given him the illusion that I would always forgive him, that I would always stay and wait.
His eyes immediately welled up, his lips. turned pale. Ignoring my resistance, he pulled me into his arms tightly.
“Scarlett, do you no longer want me? You said you would understand. I don’t love Ivy Rogers, I just see her as a sister. The one I love is you.”
“Are you really so bothered by the divorce? Then let’s not get divorced. Let’s go get remarried right now.”
“Caleb Coleman, you didn’t say that when I didn’t want to. You said it was the best option. So, you do have a way, but sacrificing

me was the easiest choice.”
I looked past his shoulder and saw Ivy Rogers walking toward us.
She wore sunglasses and a mask, and despite being four months pregnant, she was still in high heels.
From her rosy complexion, it was clear that she had been well taken care of these past few months.
She approached us and stood behind Caleb Coleman, gently tugging at his sleeve.
I met her wary gaze, smiled indifferently, and struggled to push Caleb Coleman away.
I told him, “Your bride, the one you’re going to spend the rest of your life with, is here.”

Then, looking up into his eyes, I said earnestly,
“Caleb Coleman, after all this time, I’ve never asked anything of you. Now, I want you to promise me one thing.”
“Say it,” he said, his voice trembling.
“After today, unless absolutely necessary, I won’t enter San Francisco, and you won’t enter New York.”
“From here on out, we go our separate ways, never to be part of each other’s lives again.”
