Chapter 2
“Chloe, the light in my apartment is broken,” Hailey said sweetly as she stepped over the threshold. “Ethan was worried about me
being alone, so he insisted I stay here for a while. He even changed the door code to my birthday–just in case I forgot it. You don’t mind, do you?”
My eyes dropped to her shoulder. The strap of her silk robe had slipped down, exposing a fresh love bite on her chest. She wasn’t wearing a bra.
From inside, someone chuckled.
“Chloe’s always been generous. Of course she doesn’t mind.”
stepped into the living room.

Ethan sat sprawled on the sofa, his shirt buttoned wrong, pants creased like he’d just thrown them back on. A damp spot darkened the cushion beneath him.
He stood and wrapped his arms around me like nothing had happened.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were going out so late?” he said gently. “You’re pregnant, Chloe. If something happened to you…
Η
His concern sounded genuine–except I knew the truth. That behind this loving facade, he was cheating on me with his first love. Right here. In my home. And the changed door code? That wasn’t for her convenience. It was to keep me out.
I didn’t answer. I just turned and walked upstairs.

Later that night, Ethan–who had never touched milk in his life–brought me a warm glass and held it out.
“You’re in your third trimester. You need more calcium and protein.” He smiled. “Come on. Be good and drink it.”
I stared at the glass, then back at him. Something about the way he said it made my skin crawl.
“I don’t want it.”
His smile faltered, but only for a moment. “It’s for your own good. And the baby’s.”
Then, without warning, he pressed the glass to my lips and forced the milk into my mouth. The sickly–sweet liquid slid down my throat–and within minutes, a heavy

sleepiness tugged at my body.
Just before darkness took me, I thought I saw two shadows… moving together beside my bed.
I woke up the next morning in agony. My muscles ached. My body felt wrong.
After Ethan left for work, I pulled out the phone I’d hidden in the flower pot. Last night, just before drinking the milk, I had turned on the camera.
I pressed play.
And everything unraveled.
The video showed Ethan and Hailey entering the room, their bodies pressed together, kissing feverishly as they stumbled toward
- me.

“Ethan,” Hailey whispered, “do you know how much it hurts to see you with her every day?”
Ethan leaned over and spat on my sleeping face. Then he kicked me.
“She’s nothing. I only married her for the baby. Do you think I’d ever touch her if it
weren’t for that? She’s not even a shadow of
you.”
Hailey smiled wickedly. “Are you sure you drugged her enough?”
Then she began stripping off my clothes like she was undressing a mannequin.
“What if she wakes up? Or worse, finds out the truth after giving birth? We need something to keep her quiet.”

Ethan nodded, then helped her position me. They dragged me onto a stool, legs splayed wide, my body on display like some sick experiment. He took photos–dozens–while Hailey adjusted my posture like I was some toy.
Then… they touched me.
They used me.
I watched it all with silent tears streaming down my face. I couldn’t scream. I couldn’t look away. I just… watched.
When the video ended, I sat in the darkness, trembling.
Without hesitation, I reached for the pills the doctor had prescribed and swallowed them one after another.

A voice broke the silence.
“What are you taking?”
I looked up. Ethan stood at the door, concern etched into his features like a mask he’d worn too long.
“Just calcium tablets,” I said with a calm I
didn’t feel.
And I smiled.
