The nurse sighed, her gaze lingering on him with a mixture of pity and disdain. “I don’t know… someone took her away this. morning!”
At the words, Ethan sprang to his feet, only to be stopped by the sudden arrival of two traffic officers.
“Mr. Miles, you’re under suspicion for running a red light and driving under the influence. Please come with us.”
Ethan was detained for his reckless actions, while I lay in a luxurious confinement center, nibbling on fruit, when the news reached me.
“What are you going to do now? Ethan and Hailey are both in disgrace.”

My best friend glanced down at the wound on my abdomen, her eyes filling with tears. “Of course, we’re getting a divorce. I can’t be tied to a man like him for the rest of my life. But now? Ethan won’t agree to it.”
I put down the fork in my hand. “He will agree.”
“But those videos you posted… they hurt them, but they also hurt you. Don’t you regret it?” she asked, though she still couldn’t bring herself to watch the footage. Even in the high–end center where I was staying, the stares from the other women were filled with curiosity, judgment, and something far colder.
I shook my head. “A woman shouldn’t be confined to just the way she’s seen in those videos. I didn’t do anything wrong. Why

should I care what others think?”
Once my body had healed enough, I visited the police station, where I found Ethan in the detention room, his face shadowed by a rough stubble.
“Chloe,” he began, his voice full of remorse as he dropped to his knees before me. “I know I was wrong. Can you forgive me this time?”
I looked down at him, my voice cold. “Ethan, you used me to get pregnant with your and Hailey’s child and took those humiliating photos. Do you really think a simple apology will make all of that go away?”
Ethan grasped my hand, his hands still shackled. “Chloe, if you can forgive me, I’ll do anything you ask.”
I lowered my gaze, then pulled a stack of

papers from my bag. “I want you to transfer all the assets under your name to mine.”
Without hesitation, he nodded. “Okay. I promise.”
I handed him the papers and a pen, watching as he signed, my eyes never leaving the page. After he finished, I turned to the next. Ethan hesitated for a moment, wanting to read the next clause, but I stopped him, holding his hand.
“I’m eight months pregnant. Do you know how it felt, watching the baby being taken from me without so much as a sound? I could still feel him moving during the day, but by night, he was gone, taken from me silently.“”
Ethan’s face twisted in guilt, his voice breaking. “Don’t say anymore, Chloe. I’m

sorry… I promise I’ll make it up to you once I get out.”
He signed the final document without even looking at it, as if he couldn’t bear the weight of his actions any longer.
I tucked the signed papers into my bag and stood up, looking down at him. “Only when you’ve lost everything will you understand whether the person next to you is truly human or just a shadow.”
Ethan stared at me, confusion in his eyes, but I didn’t offer any further explanation. I turned and walked out of the room without looking back.
“Chloe, wait for me. When I get out, I swear I’ll make it right,” he called after me.
I didn’t stop or slow my pace, my words

sharp as I left him behind.
“You have no future.”
Once outside the police station, I retrieved the documents from my bag. Buried between the papers was the divorce agreement. I called my lawyer immediately.
“Help me finalize the divorce as quickly as possible.”
Without waiting for a response, I ended the call, already moving on.
