Chapter 9
Ethan stood frozen, staring at the courier in front of him. His hand trembled as the memory of the last delivery still haunted him. He took the package, feeling its weight through the envelope, and instinctively signed for it, his eyes catching sight of a small notebook tucked inside.
“This has to be from Chloe,” he murmured. to himself, tearing open the package with a mixture of anticipation and dread.
As he unfolded the documents inside, the sight of the three bold, red words “Divorce Certificate” hit him like a lightning strike. He froze, the ground beneath him suddenly feeling as if it had shifted.
“How… How could this be?” His voice

cracked as he pulled out the divorce agreement with shaking hands. He sank to the ground, his body feeling hollow, as if the world had been ripped from beneath him.
A frantic sense of urgency consumed him. He rushed downstairs, his mind racing, only to stop dead in his tracks. The towering “Miles” name on the company’s building had been replaced–now it read “Owen.”
His stomach twisted as he stared at the sign in disbelief.
“Isn’t that our high–ranking President Miles? Why does he look like a dead dog now?”
Ethan turned, and his heart sank. Caleb, leaning casually against a Ferrari with Hailey clinging to his side, greeted him with a mockingly familiar tone.

“Hailey?” Ethan’s voice was a hoarse whisper, his disbelief evident.
Hailey, now wrapped around Caleb, leaned in against his chest with a playful smirk. “Don’t call me that. Caleb might get jealous.”
The sight was enough to make Ethan tremble with fury. “How could you do this to me? I lost everything for you. Even Chloe has abandoned me now–how could you?”
Hailey’s response dripped with disdain. “You’re nothing but a beggar now. What makes you think you’re still worthy of me?”
The words cut through him, and rage surged through his veins. “Hailey, you conniving bitch! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have made such a disastrous mistake with Chloe. This is all your fault!”

Before he could even reach for her, Caleb struck, a swift kick sending Ethan sprawling to the ground.
“You’re a pathetic man, still thinking you have any claim to her?” Caleb sneered, stepping down hard on Ethan’s hand. A sickening crunch echoed as Caleb kicked him in the face, the force sending two of Ethan’s teeth flying. Blood poured from his mouth as the pain coursed through his body.
Caleb had never forgotten the time Ethan had humiliated him, and now, finally, he was paying back every ounce of pain he had suffered.
“How dare you hit me?” Ethan spat through clenched teeth, his face contorted in anger but powerless to fight back.
Caleb stepped on his hand again, pressing

down harder. “I’ll hit you whenever I please. Do I need to schedule it for you?”
Ethan’s eyes burned with fury, but Caleb continued, his tone taunting. “You think you’re still the mighty President of Miles? Chloe sold the company to me at a loss. It’s mine now, including everything you thought you owned… and that includes your precious woman.”
Caleb’s gaze was laced with venom as he spat on Ethan’s head.
“I won’t forget this,” Ethan growled, his fists clenched, shaking with rage.
Hailey crouched down in front of Ethan, her eyes filled with mockery. “Save your energy, Ethan. You’re just a drowning dog now. Anyone can step on you, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.”

Blood continued to flow from Ethan’s mouth, and he glared at Hailey, his voice strained. “So this is who you really are.”
She smiled, her fingers trailing lightly over his face. “People rise, water flows down–it’s human nature. If you were still the man you once were, the powerful Mr. Miles, I would stay by your side… let you have your fun.”
With a final smirk, Hailey stood up, taking Caleb’s hand. She rose on tiptoe, placing a kiss on his cheek.
“Let’s go. We’ve got business to take care of.”
