Chapter 16
The entire pack hall fell silent.
Jonah’s smile vanished. His face drained of color, and the goblet of wine slipped from his fingers, shattering on the stone floor. He didn’t care about the pack’s reputation or the guests in attendance. His hand shot out, gripping his Beta’s collar, his voice sharp and frantic.
“What did you just say? Say it again! Where the hell did Greta go?”
Naomi reached for his arm, her voice soft but urgent. “Jonah, don’t do this. Everyone’s watching. My parents are here too. Let’s talk about it later, okay?”
But Jonah couldn’t be calm this time. He

yanked her hand away and dragged the Beta to a quieter corner.
“Explain,” he demanded, his voice shaking. “She was supposed to be at home waiting for me. We talked this morning–she promised me!”
He didn’t even understand why he was this furious. Maybe it was shock. Maybe it was something else. But the second he heard Greta was in danger, something inside him unraveled.
The Beta, clearly panicking, fumbled with his communicator and showed him the breaking
news.
“Luna Greta was definitely on that flight. I just confirmed it. The Bloodfang warriors were assigned to oversee security at the ceremony, so all house guards were

temporarily stationed here. No one was watching her. I checked the flight records- her name was on the passenger list. And the patrol footage from the estate shows she left two nights ago. The same night you took Naomi away.”
Jonah’s grip loosened, his hand falling to his side as a crushing sense of helplessness overtook him. For the first time, he felt completely powerless. His legs barely held him up.
After a long silence, he muttered, “No… Greta told me she’d wait at home… she said ‘happy mating.”
His breath hitched.
No, wait. She said ‘happy mating‘ to me and Naomi.

His voice was so quiet that the Beta had to strain to hear him.
The hesitation in Jonah’s tone made the Beta uneasy. He swallowed before saying, “Alpha… could she have figured out what you did? If she did, there’s no way she’d stay. And with her condition, leaving like that… I’m afraid-”
He didn’t finish, but Jonah already saw where this was going.
Still, he refused to accept it.
“No. No way,” Jonah said, shaking his head. “Greta wouldn’t have found out. If she had, she would’ve confronted me first. That’s how she is. But she didn’t. She didn’t call, didn’t text, nothing.”
He forced a deep breath, his voice cracking

as he went on. “I explained everything about that night. She didn’t blame me. She wouldn’t just disappear. I won’t let her!”
His voice rose, raw and desperate.
“Find her! Search everywhere, I don’t care how long it takes! Alive, I want to see her. Dead…”
His voice wavered.
“Dead, I’ll bury her myself.”
The last words left him in a roar, shaking with every ounce of emotion he tried to suppress.
The Beta paled, nodded, and rushed off without another word.
As soon as he was gone, Naomi stepped closer, a smirk barely hidden behind her false

concern. Jonah didn’t even look at her
For the first time, he realized that everything was crumbling around him. And it was all his fault.
