Chapter 20
Greta smiled and wiped the tears from her best friend’s face. “I’m fine now, you see? I used to want to stay with him, but now… let’s just call it a lesson learned. I don’t want to be caught up in this mess anymore. Leaving like this is for the best.”
Her best friend nodded quickly. “Yeah, it’s all arranged. I brought in a top healer. He checked your records and said the surgery has a really high success rate. We can’t put it off any longer. I’m taking you there now!”
The operation lasted five hours. The healer said Greta was lucky–if she had waited even two more days, she might never have regained her ability to shift. Now, she just needed time. Recovery, training, patience. Eventually, she would return to her full

strength.
She stopped paying attention to the news in Bloodfang Pack, but Jonah’s name was too big to ignore. Every day, her phone buzzed with headlines.
Jonah had rejected Naomi publicly, leaving her disgraced in front of the entire pack. She became the biggest joke in the werewolf community. His parents rushed to fix the situation, announcing that Naomi was still going to be their Luna.
And then Jonah did something insane.
He went online, using his real name, and posted their mating ceremony photos for the whole world to see. He swore up and down that Greta was the only mate he would ever accept.

Then he took Janelle back to the Bloodfang estate and gave his parents an ultimatum: if Naomi stepped foot inside, he would burn everything the Bloodfang Pack had built to the ground.
They tried to push back, but he was their only heir. In the end, they gave in.
Naomi’s dream of becoming Luna was completely shattered. The two families turned against each other, and soon, they were in court fighting over Janelle’s custody.
And Jonah didn’t defend Naomi. Not once.
Scrolling through all the backlash he was getting from the pack, Greta couldn’t wrap her head around it. This was his choice. She had already stepped aside. He had gotten what he wanted.

So why was he suddenly acting like he had only ever loved her?
She sighed and shut off her phone. There were better things to focus on.
Her best friend visited her almost every day, making sure she was comfortable and taken care of. With her around, life wasn’t so bad. Greta focused on her recovery and tried not to think about the past.
Jonah, on the other hand, was a mess.
A week passed, and he still hadn’t found her. He spent his days drinking himself into oblivion, barely sober enough to function. It finally caught up to him when he collapsed and had to be rushed to the healer’s ward with severe internal injuries.
Lying in the healing chamber, he stared at

the ceiling, his voice barely above a whisper. “Was I wrong?”
The healer, who had known him since childhood, stood beside him, watching him fall apart.
“Greta isn’t dead, is she?” Jonah whispered hoarsely. “The search party never found her body. That flight information must have been fake… right?”
His voice cracked.
“This is her revenge. The Winslet family had the power to pull this off. She planned all of this.”
The healer sighed. “Jonah, let me tell you the truth. Greta was unconscious before, but she was still aware. She knew everything you did. And when I operated on her, I saw tears

at the corners of her eyes.”
Jonah’s heart skipped a beat.
“She was hurt by you, the healer continued. “And she’s never coming back.”
Jonah’s chest tightened painfully.
“I warned you before–Greta was the one who truly loved you. Naomi? She was nothing more than a passing phase. Now that she’s gone too, what’s left? You’ve been living in denial, Jonah. No one can pull you out of it but yourself.”
Jonah felt like the air had been sucked out of
the room.
“Greta was your saving grace, and you threw her away for Naomi. And for what? Naomi was never a good person. She wanted to ruin

Greta, and you helped her do it.”
Jonah clenched his fists, his breathing ragged. He knew it too, didn’t he? That night with Naomi three years ago, it wasn’t some unfortunate accident.
He made a choice.
And when he did, he destroyed what he had with Greta.
Jonah forced himself out of the healing chamber, ignoring the pain, ignoring the stitches pulling at his skin. He hailed a transport and went straight to the pack’s security office.
He pulled every string he could.
And he found her.

A day later, he was outside her training facility in a distant pack territory. He saw her leaning on crutches, struggling through rehab, pushing herself to heal.
His chest tightened. His eyes stung, and for the first time in a long time, he couldn’t stop the tears.
But he didn’t say a word.
He didn’t make a sound.
He just stood there, hidden behind the trees, watching her.
Before leaving, he handed a nearby Omega a note and asked them to deliver it.
It read:
[ I promised you’d never see me again. This

is my last promise to you. ]
