Chapter 23
In an instant, my world spun wildly.
I wobbled, on the verge of collapsing to the ground.
“How could this be… How could the rejection happen suddenly…”
At this moment, Loren was still completely preoccupied with Cupid’s matter, utterly unaware of Rosy’s dire situation.
Back home, I locked myself in the room.
I frantically searched for information about artificial hearts online.
My fingers trembled as I dialed the numbers of major hospitals, my voice pleading as I

asked if there were any compatible hearts available for transplantation.
However, time and time again,
disappointment echoed from the other end of the line.
Each time I hung up the phone, my heart felt as if it were being struck hard by a sledgehammer.
Late at night,I sat at the desk, which was littered with piles of documents. My eyes, bloodshot and weary, were fixed intently on the information about artificial heart donors on the computer screen.
My fingers flew across the keyboard, a desperate attempt to pluck a glimmer of hope from the vast expanse of the internet and secure a chance at life for Rosy.

Just then, the screen of my phone suddenly
lit
up, and the shrill notification sound shattered the deathly silence in the room.
It was Aya who had updated her Monuments.
What greeted my eyes was a scene of bustling activity at an amusement park. Aya was nestled tightly in Loren’s arms. And Cupid, standing nearby, stared straight into the camera with his overly bright eyes. The family looked so harmonious and joyous.
My breath quickened, and before I could recover from this intense stabbing pain, Rosy, who had been sitting on the sofa watching cartoons, seemed to sense something amiss.
She walked over with the tablet in hand.

Her small hand, almost involuntarily, zoomed in on the photo, and she stared intently, over and over again.
“Mama, is Daddy going to be someone else’s daddy?”
Forcing back the tears, I quickly flipped the tablet face – down and tried my best to make my voice sound gentle.
“Rosy. Mommy will accompany you back to your room to sleep.”
Loren didn’t come back all night.
As soon as the sky began to lighten with the first rays of dawn, I got up early.
I gently woke Rosy, trying not to make a sound, and started to prepare for our departure.

Rosy, still sleepy–eyed, was sensible enough not to ask too many questions and silently cooperated with me in packing our things.
Then, there was a noise at the door, and I see Loren standing outside with Aya and Cupid.
Loren was carrying several large boxes in his hands, all Aya and Cupid’s belongings.
He was slightly taken aback when he saw our suitcases.
“Selina, where are you two going?”
“Rosy hasn’t been in a good mood lately. I’m planning to take her on a little trip in a couple of days to cheer her up.”
Aya lifted her chin.

“Hmph, going on a trip? Could it be that you know you can’t keep your man and are trying to slink away in shame?” she sneered.
I clenched Rosy’s hand tightly. I simply ignored her.
Loren immediately rushed to lead the two of them upstairs with an eagerness.
Ten minutes later, a shrill cry of a child suddenly pierced the air from upstairs.
I dashed barefoot up the stairs, straight into Rosy’s room.
The sight that met my eyes set my blood boiling.
