Chapter 5
“Sage stayed away all these years because she didn’t want to incur your wrath,” Ryder blurted out. “She finally comes back, and you humiliate her like this? What kind of sister does that?”
A bitter laugh escaped me.
“Oh? And what is a sister supposed to do? Ignore it when her own mate chooses her sister over her? Turn a blind eye when that same sister gets a little too close to him?”
I couldn’t hold it in any longer.
All the anger, all the pain–I let it pour out.
But Sage gasped dramatically, her eyes brimming with tears.

A chill ran down my spine. My pulse thundered in my ears.
I tried to wrench my hand free, but before I could, Ryder stepped forward and pulled Sage into his arms. The force of it sent me stumbling–right into the path of an oncoming wolf.
Pain exploded through me as I crashed to the ground. My breath left me in a sharp gasp as agony took over.
Warm, thick blood pooled beneath me, spreading fast over the frozen earth.
Ryder didn’t even glance at me.
Instead, he turned to me with a glare of pure
disgust.

“Are you insane? Are you actually trying to make Sage harm herself? How can anyone be as heartless as you?”
Sage, safely cradled in his arms, peeked up at me from beneath her lashes.
A satisfied smirk played at the corners of her lips–just before she let her body go limp, feigning unconsciousness.
Ryder didn’t hesitate.
He swept her up and sprinted toward the healer’s tent, never once looking back.
I tried to speak, to call out–to say anything -but only a faint, broken sound escaped my lips.
I could do nothing but lie there, feeling my
