Chapter 10
The hospital, unable to withstand the pressure from public opinion, issued a statement and dismissed both Edward and Molly.
Their desks were quickly cleared, and their personal belongings were discarded. I didn’t want any of them, and Molly didn’t come to retrieve hers, so they were simply thrown in a garbage bin outside the hospital, labeled with their names.
Someone took pictures and posted them online, and the public reveled in the aftermath, applauding the outcome.
Edward, just released from detention, was now reduced to nothing more than a stray dog.

On the street, people recognized him and would curse him, spitting at him from a distance.
By the time he finally returned home, he found me packing up, throwing all of his things outside the door.
When he saw me, I pulled out a divorce agreement and slammed it on the ground.
“Edward, here’s the divorce agreement. You’re leaving with nothing.”
Edward immediately knelt before me, crawling and holding my legs. “Sweetie, I was wrong. I truly was wrong. Please give me another chance.”
“I’ve lost everything, I have nothing left!”

“You’re all I have now, sweetie!”
I crouched down, meeting his eyes. “We grew up together, with no family. For all these years, it’s only been us.”
“But how did we end up here?”
“Edward, you brought this upon yourself! When you were cheating, did you think about the years we’ve spent together? Did you think about our child who was about to be born?”
Edward raised his hand and slapped himself several times, half of his face swelling from the blows.
“Sweetie, I was wrong. Please, tell me what I need to do for you to forgive me?”
I collapsed to the ground, feeling utterly

powerless.
“My child is gone. Molly killed him. But she can’t be charged. You didn’t help me, and now you want my forgiveness?”
Suddenly, I grabbed Edward by the collar.
“You want me to forgive you? Then give me my child back! Give me my child back!” | broke down into uncontrollable sobs.
Edward fell silent, as though he had made a decision. After a long pause, he finally muttered a quiet “Okay”
Edward left.
Watching him walk away, a victorious smile crept onto my face.

yearning for family. He did love me, but his nature was far more vile.
I had played this scene of hysteria in front of him, and it was enough to break him.
Edward suddenly disappeared.
I had finished my postpartum confinement, and the students were on vacation.
They had learned about what happened to me through the internet. The class monitor had organized everyone to fold a bunch of paper cranes and even pooled together some pocket money to buy me a bouquet of carnations. They came over to visit me.
“Ms. Flores, don’t be sad. We’re all your children.”
“These are our gifts for you. We wish you a

Happy New Year!”
I received their gifts with tears in my eyes, thanking them for their kindness.
Just as I was about to invite them inside to rest, the police suddenly knocked on the door.
“Ms. Flores, is Edward Scott your husband?”
