Edward chased after me, following the sound of my voice down the stairs.
But I was quicker, drawing the attention of several residents, who rushed out to ask where the fire was.
“There’s no fire! There’s a murderer in this building, call the police!”
One person immediately pulled out their phone to dial 911, while others opened their doors, offering to let me hide in their homes.
I ducked into a neighbor’s apartment.
Meanwhile, word spread in the neighborhood group chat, and the security guards soon gathered downstairs to watch over the exits.

Soon, the sound of sirens filled the air, and the police began their search, floor by floor, checking the security footage. They spotted Edward standing on the rooftop.
The police surrounded him as soon as they reached the top, and only then did the residents feel safe enough to open their doors.
I also made my way to the rooftop, seeing Edward standing at the edge, his face horribly disfigured from the boiling water, his skin looking like that of a cooked lobster.
“Edward, you are suspected of killing Molly. Come down from the rooftop now and return with us for questioning!” an officer commanded.

“Sweetie, I’ve avenged our child. Why can’t you forgive me?”
“We were supposed to be the closest people to each other. Have you forgotten?”
The officers gestured for me to speak with him, to at least persuade him to come down from the roof.
But I remained silent.
I didn’t want him to come down. I wanted him to die!
Seeing my lack of reaction, Edward laughed through his tears.

“Edward, so you still remember? It was you who said you loved me, that we’d take care of each other for a lifetime. You said once we had a child, we’d have a family, and all of this was our dream. But you betrayed everything we wanted!”

“Do you think you’re noble now? Avenging me? You make it sound so good! But it’s all just guilt eating away at you!”
The police hurriedly intervened, urging me to stop, to not provoke Edward further.

After a long pause, he suddenly climbed over the railing, gazing at me with a look of utter despair.
“No… it’s my fault, he whispered.

Edward screamed as he plummeted, and then there was only silence.
Blood pooled around him, and the police quickly rushed forward, but it was too late. He had already lost his life.
