Chapter 13
As a family member, I was summoned by the police and learned of everything Edward had done after he left home.
The day he left, he went straight to find Molly.
Molly, aware of the wrongs she had done to him, let him inside her home.
Edward told Molly that I was planning to divorce him, and he said he was willing to accept it.
But Molly’s face turned cold.
By this point, Edward was nothing, and she, too, had lost everything–her reputation shattered because of him, and she could no

longer find work.
“Edward, let the past stay in the past. We both need to start fresh, and we should leave each other alone,” she said.

“Leave each other alone? Now you’re telling me to leave you alone?” Edward snapped, his voice rising. “When you seduced me back then, why didn’t you say that? When you

Edward’s anger grew more intense, and he grabbed Molly by the shoulders, preventing her from escaping.
“Now you want to walk away just like that? Let me tell you–no way!”
“You killed my child! You owe him a life!” he

shouted.
With those words, Edward grabbed the fruit knife from the table and drove it into Molly’s chest.
As a doctor, he knew exactly where to strike to deliver a fatal blow.
The police showed me the surveillance footage from Molly’s house. In it, Edward stabbed Molly repeatedly, and she, like a fish on a cutting board, was too weak to fight back, powerless to stop her life from slipping away in his hands.
A strange sense of satisfaction surged within me.
But I closed my eyes, unable to bear the sight, trembling as I shakily closed the computer screen.

The police escorted me out, reminding me that, as the victim, I shouldn’t linger on the past. Even though they were both dead, they told me to look ahead, not dwell on what had already happened.
I thanked him for his words of comfort.
Back home, I gathered up Edward’s things and threw them all into the recycling bin.
Then I burned all of our pictures and gifts from the years we spent together, reducing them to ashes.
Afterward, I opened a bottle of very
expensive champagne, which I had originally bought to celebrate Christmas.
As the champagne popped open with a loud “pop“, fireworks suddenly erupted in

the distance, lighting up the sky in brilliant colors.
I raised my glass, clinking it against the fireworks outside.
A silent toast to the new life I was beginning.

When I confronted him, he remained unfazed.
“You know my parents want a grandchild. The baby is due in a month, and once it’s born, I’ll come back to you.”
What he didn’t know was that I was in the final stages of cancer, with only one month left to live.
