Chapter 02
A flash of guilt crossed Edward’s face, but he quickly recovered, responding defensively, “I already told you, I went to a dinner party!”
That’s when I realized that the man I had been with for five years, the father of my child, was nothing but a hypocrite.
“I asked your colleague while we were at the hospital, and your department didn’t have any dinner gathering today!”
“And when you came back, you smelled like perfume, and there was lipstick on your jacket–a woman’s lipstick!”
“It was Molly, wasn’t it?!”
I screamed at him, and at first, he looked

at me as though I were making a scene, but when I mentioned Molly, his expression faltered for just a moment before returning to his usual indifference.
“… I didn’t go to the dinner party, but I only made up those lies to put your mind at ease!”
“You lied to me to make me feel at ease? Edward, what kind of trick are you trying to play?!”
It was absurd!
“Molly was moving tonight and asked me to help her. I was worried you’d misunderstand if I told you the truth, so I lied. This is exactly what I was afraid of!”
I couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief.

He was helping someone else, and to avoid me misunderstanding, he lied–was I such a terrible person that I wouldn’t allow him to help a friend move?
“Fine, just calm down and don’t hurt the baby anymore!”
Edward left, leaving me alone in the hospital
room.
I rubbed my belly, crying uncontrollably, when suddenly my phone buzzed with a message notification.
I picked it up and saw a message from Molly.
“Phoenix, Dr. Scott really did come to help me move today”
She even attached a picture of the cardboard boxes in her room, filled with items

But when I checked her Instagram, the latest post was a photo of her lying in bed, half her face hidden under the blanket, smiling coquettishly.
The caption read: Thank you to the kind soul who helped me move today. The mattress is so bouncy, and the blanket is so soft. Thanks for the recommendation
I turned off my phone, my heart sinking completely, unable to even shed another tear.
In the top–right corner of the photo, there was a glint of something.
It was Edward’s wedding ring.
Edward, an obstetrician, always took off his ring during work and put it back on after his

shift.
I had once advised him, “Darling, doesn’t it feel like a hassle? Why not just leave it at home?”
But Edward had responded, “This ring is a symbol of our love and marriage. I want to tell everyone I have a family, a wife whom I love, and who loves me!”
I still clearly remember the vivid expression on his face at that moment. But now, it was all in the past.
The next morning, I returned home alone.
Edward was just about to leave for work when he saw me. His attitude softened slightly. “Take your time to rest at home today. Molly already explained everything to you last night. Don’t overthink it anymore.

But I pulled a document out of my bag and placed it on the table.
“Edward, this is the divorce agreement. Sign it, and let’s end this”
