Chapter 04
Aaliyah shot me a glare as she walked toward the door.
As she passed by me, I noticed that she was wearing a necklace–my necklace.
Without thinking, I grabbed Aaliyah roughly, causing the photo album and hard drive to spill across the floor.
“Where did you get this necklace?”
Aaliyah cried out in pain, “Let go of me, Gavin gave it to me!”
Gavin rushed forward and pulled my hand away from Aaliyah, “What are you doing? I gave her the necklace!”

I lost control and shouted at Gavin, “This is mine! How dare you give it to her?”
Gavin clicked his tongue in annoyance, “It’s just a necklace. Why are you making a big deal out of it? You have so many necklaces. What’s the problem with giving one to Liya?”
The moment I heard those words, my anger surged through me, filling every part of my body..
I yanked the necklace off Aaliyah’s neck.
“This was made by you, given to me. When you see this necklace, don’t you remember a single bit of our memories?” I glared at Gavin, my eyes bloodshot.
This necklace was made the day Gavin and I started a relationship.

At first, I didn’t want to make it because ! wasn’t good at crafts, and I was afraid it would turn out ugly and ruin my image in his
eyes.
But he said, “Becky, let’s make a necklace just for us, a unique one. We’ll carve our names on it. It’ll represent that you will always belong to me, and I will always belong to you.”
Seeing the pleading look in Gavin’s eyes, I finally agreed.
I poured all my artistic effort into it, but still, the necklace came out looking clumsy. Yet, he didn’t mind at all and immediately put it around his neck. “Becky, you made this, just for me, Gavin. It’s my priceless treasure.”
Back then, being in my first relationship, I was so shy and blushing from his sweet

words.
I asked him, “Why is yours so pretty?”
His face turned awkward as he stammered, “I… I’m just naturally talented!”
After much prodding, his face turned bright red, and he mumbled, “I made it several times before we confirmed our relationship… because, you know, a girl like you deserves a
beautiful necklace.”
In the end, the two of us, both blushing like tomatoes, went to pay and even got teased by the shopkeeper.
Growing up in an orphanage, life was already hard enough–let alone the luxury of seeking love.

expenses came solely from Gavin’s father, who helped me finish college.
Back then, I was like a hedgehog, wary and prickly, while Gavin appeared with a sincere, burning heart, declaring his love for me time and time again.
I fell for him. Willingly.
But now, the man standing before me was both familiar and strange. Was it possible that the memories I clung to were my own creation?
Gavin remained silent as I questioned him, his face devoid of emotion, watching me fall apart with a cold detachment.
Aaliyah stood by, her smile dripping with satisfaction. “Rebecca, people’s feelings change. It’s only natural.”

“Give me back my necklace. You don’t deserve it anymore,” Aaliyah said, reaching for the necklace in my hand.
Overcome by emotion, I threw the necklace to the ground and crushed it under my heel with a force that echoed through the room.
As I snapped back to my senses, I stared at the broken pieces of the necklace on the floor, a cold emptiness settling in.
I picked up the scattered photo albums and hard drive, my voice shaking but resolute.
“This is mine. Only I get to decide whether they should be given away!” I said sharply to them.
Feigning harshness was the last way I could maintain my dignity.

But as I stepped out of the room, the pain hit me like a wave, crashing over my soul.
It hurt so much.
