Chapter 09
Seeing me silent, Gavin’s eyes reddened as he said, “The night you didn’t come home, you came back the next day wearing new clothes, with a strange man dropping you off. I was jealous, that’s why I acted like that.”
“As for the company, I admit I was jealous. Over the years, your abilities have outshone mine. Everyone’s been focused on you, not on me. The company has grown under your management, but you kept flying higher, leaving less and less time for home. I was afraid I’d lose you.”
“We’ve been together for ten years. That’s not fake, is it? Please, don’t divorce me. I can’t live without you.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at Gavin’s

shameless words. “Gavin, I’ve realized that while you might lack any real skill in running the company, when it comes to scheming and deceiving, you’re truly top–notch. But I don’t care what your reasons are–some pains have already been inflicted, and there’s no way to undo them.”
Gavin knelt on the floor, clutching my legs, tears streaming down his face. “Becky, all the assets in the divorce agreement are yours. I beg you, please don’t leave me!”
I pried his hands off me. “Our relationship is like that necklace–shattered beyond repair, with no hope of ever being restored.”
With those words, I immediately returned to the hospital room and locked the door behind me, not wanting to continue dealing with Gavin.

He knelt outside the room all night, disturbing the hospital’s order.
Then, I had a friend do me a small favor and sabotaged his company just a little. With his capabilities, I figured he’d be so busy dealing with the fallout that he wouldn’t bother us again before Noah’s discharge.
After Noah was discharged, we moved to another place to stay.
Once everything was settled, I planned to take Noah out to enjoy life. I thought we would finally have some peaceful time together.
But, unexpectedly, Gavin haunted me like a ghost.
I was not sure who he had asked, but he somehow found out where we were staying.

When I came home one day, he was waiting at our door.
Seeing me, Gavin rushed over with a gleam of hope in his eyes. “Rebecca, look what I have.”
From his jacket, he pulled out a necklace. “I never gave this to Aaliyah. The one that broke before was a fake. I love you so much -how could I give your necklace to someone else?”
“And as for Aaliyah, I’ve taken care of it. I’ve already kicked her out.” Gavin held the necklace in his hands, looking at me as if expecting praise.
But when I saw that necklace, I felt nothing but disgust.

Without a second thought, I snatched it from him and threw it on the ground, stomping on it with my foot.
In a panic, Gavin reached out, grabbed my foot, and carefully picked up the necklace, his eyes accusingly fixed on me.
I was eager to get rid of him–Noah was still waiting for me at home. “What? Can’t I deal with my own things?”
Gavin explained hurriedly, “Becky, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to blame you. This necklace was always yours, and you have every right to decide what to do with it.”
“But, if I could fix it, would you reconsider the divorce?”
I looked at him, speechless. “The Rebecca who loved you is long gone. The woman

standing before you no longer loves you, and I don’t want to be with you. Just sign the divorce papers as soon as you can.”
“Is there really no chance for us?” Gavin asked, his voice hollow as he leaned against the wall.
The only answer he received was the sound of me slamming the door behind me as I walked into the house.
