Chapter 04
For a moment, I almost got upset again and was ready to argue with him, but then I remembered the last misunderstanding.
“Can’t you take even a little time tonight? I can come to the hospital and keep you company. The food’s ready and still warm; I can bring it to you!”
“No need, the hospital is busy. It’s not convenient for you with your belly, and once I’m off, I’ll come home and be with you, okay?”
He made a good point, and I couldn’t argue. I reluctantly agreed.
I quietly started packing up the decorations around the room, my mood sinking to its

lowest point.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
“Hello, I’m here to deliver a package.”
I was a bit confused; I couldn’t remember ordering anything.
“Who sent it?”
“Riverside Medical Center, from a Mr. Scott. He said it’s an apology gift.”
I opened the door and saw the delivery guy holding a beautifully wrapped box.
“Thank you.” I took the box from him, feeling a bit of weight to it.
I thought, maybe Edward bought me some skincare products as an apology!
But whatever it was, the fact that he made an effort to apologize lifted my spirits a little.
I closed the door and placed the box on the table, carefully pulling apart the ribbon. I was eager to see what was inside.
Suddenly, a black, plush spider sprang out and hit my face.
I screamed in fright and lost my balance, tumbling off the chair.
The spider fell to the ground, making a mechanical noise, its eyes blinking with a red light.
A sharp pain shot through my belly, and I felt a warm trickle between my legs. I realized something was wrong–it was time. I quickly reached for my phone.

It was on the table, but the pain was so intense I couldn’t stand up. I had to slowly crawl and grip the table leg, using it to push myself upright enough to grab my phone.
I quickly dialed Edward’s number.
But the phone rang for a long time with no
answer.
Just as I was about to hang up, his voice finally answered.
“Darling, I’m in so much pain, I think I’m going into labor!”
There was a long pause before I heard his impatient voice.
“Phoenix, you’re trying to scare me again, aren’t you?”

“I’m your doctor; I know your body all too well. It’s not time yet!”
“I told you I’m working overtime. Stop overthinking things!”
Then, Edward hung up.
I collapsed on the floor, still in shock.
As I was listening to Edward’s phone call, I could have sworn I heard a woman’s soft laugh–close by, almost like flirting.
She called his name in a way I knew all too well.
“Edward.”
I was sure. It was Molly’s voice.
