Chapter 7
Seeing her expression, I smiled and opened my computer.
“Not at all. He’s not even my own flesh and blood, anyway. I know exactly what kind of person Oakley is, and what kind of person Anson is.”
Mrs. Adele, seeing that I wasn’t bothered, finally relaxed and continued.
“The girl’s parents went there, but Anson’s assistant stopped them right away. He handed them a card, as if that was supposed to settle everything.”
“And here I thought, as Oakley’s father, he’d at least have the decency to meet the girl’s parents after what happened to her. What

kind of attitude is that?” Mrs. Adele scoffed. “Anyway, they caused a scene right outside the Gates Group building, and I’m sure last night the PR team was working overtime to try to suppress the news, but it didn’t work. It still got out.”
She pulled out her phone, quickly swiping a few times, and showed me the stock market trends for the Gates Group.
“Hey, don’t get sentimental now,” she said.
I took the phone from her, understanding the point of her visit. The Gates Group’s stock had dropped, and similar companies were waiting for their chance to pounce. Knowing the operational model of the Gates Group, I knew that with the right timing, there were opportunities to benefit from this situation.
Mrs. Adele was clearly worried that I might

still feel some loyalty after years of marriage and go soft on them.
When Mrs. Adele saw me instructing my secretary to prepare for a meeting, she seemed reassured and didn’t linger at the office.
During the meeting, while I was confirming details with various departments, my secretary knocked on the door.
“General Manager, Miss Chloe said that the
young master went to see her.”
Oakley went to see Chloe? I couldn’t immediately understand what Oakley wanted, so I quickly wrapped up the meeting and headed to the school.
Following the address, I found them at a nearby restaurant. As soon as I opened the

door to the private room, Oakley’s battered face appeared before me.
“Mother…” His voice faltered.
Seeing Oakley so uncomfortable, I responded coolly and sat down next to Chloe.
“Skipping classes now too?”
Chloe felt embarrassed by my words, casting a guilty glance at me before looking over at Oakley. I understood immediately.
“Alright, eat something, then go wait in the car for Mom.”
I knew Chloe probably wanted to stay, but I didn’t want Oakley’s mess to taint her ears, so I made her leave.

Once Chloe was gone, Oakley remained seated in silence, clearly waiting for me to show concern.
“Oakley, your sister’s focused on her studies right now. If there’s nothing urgent, please don’t come to school and disturb her, okay?”
At my words, Oakley suddenly lifted his head, his eyes wide in disbelief.
“Mom! I fought with Dad–he actually hit me!”
In the past, even if I didn’t participate in his upbringing, I still made sure to show care. But now, seeing him in such a state, my lack of concern seemed to trigger his emotions.
I didn’t respond to his outburst. Instead, I calmly finished the coffee in front of me.
“Oakley, your father and I are divorced now.

You’re no longer my responsibility. You suffered enough in the first seventeen years, and when I tried to care, you threw it away. So now, there’s no need to come to me with your complaints.”
My words were blunt. Oakley sat there, his fists clenched without him realizing it.
“Take your time eating. Your sister and I will head home.”
