Chapter 3
After a long time, I wiped my tears, pulled myself together, and picked up an unfamiliar phone. My fingers trembled slightly, but my voice was steady.
“I have a twenty–billion–dollar job. Interested?”
A low chuckle came through the receiver, rough like gravel. “Depends. What kind of job?”
“In three days, kidnap me.”
I gently stroked my stomach, feeling the faintest flutter of life inside. “Alpha Dwayne will gladly pay the ransom.”
The moment I hung up, the door creaked

open, and a wave of whiskey and musk filled the room. My wolf stirred uneasily. Alpha Dwayne stepped inside, his golden eyes sharp despite his sluggish movements. His steps were unsteady, but his grip on my wrist was firm.
“What will I gladly pay for?” he asked, his voice dangerously low.
My heart pounded, but I forced a smile. “I found a ruby necklace I liked. The seller wants a deposit first.”
Dwayne chuckled, his warm breath fanning over my neck as he leaned in. “Fine, I’ll pay. I’ll pay for everything, Jessica. Whatever you want, it’s yours. I’m yours too.”
His words sent a shudder down my spine. Not of pleasure. Of revulsion.

Expressionless, I helped him to bed, tucking him in as his rumbled contentedly. I lay beside him, staring at the ceiling all night, listening to his slow, steady breathing. His scent, once intoxicating, now felt suffocating.
The next day, on the way to try on wedding dresses, Dwayne’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, then frowned.
“Adele,” he said, voice clipped, “our trade caravan ran into trouble with Alpha Elliot on the way back. I need to handle it.”
He squeezed my hand apologetically. “I’m sorry. I promise I’ll go with you tomorrow. I even had new wedding rings designed just for us. Let’s try them together, okay?”
I pulled my hand away, my expression blank. “I understand. Go. I’ll wait for you at home.”

He hesitated, then kissed my forehead before driving off.
Not ten minutes later, Beta Byron’s car pulled up.
I slid inside, Then my phone pinged.
A message. A photo.
Jessica, draped in the very wedding dress I had chosen. The diamond ring on her delicate hand sparkled under the soft lighting. She knelt between a man’s legs, her hands resting on his thighs like she belonged there.
A video followed.

Gritting my teeth, I glared up at him. “I’m carrying Alpha Dwayne’s pup. If anything happens to me, you won’t live either.”
Byron snorted. “Idiot. Did you really think Dwayne would let a filthy woman like you carry his pup?”
A cruel laugh rang out behind him.
Jessica.
She stepped forward, her red stilettos clicking against the pavement before she pressed one against my cheek.
“Oh, Adele, you poor thing” she cooed, her voice dripping with mock sympathy. “It must be exhausting, living in such a delusion.”

Byron pulled her into his arms, his hands roaming her body shamelessly. I stared, stunned, as they shared a deep, unrestrained kiss in front of me.
When they finally broke apart, Byron smirked. “You heard us that night, didn’t you? Too bad. That thing in your belly isn’t even Jessica’s embryo–I swapped it with a stray’s bastard from the slums.”
My head snapped up, my wolf howling in outrage.
Jessica burst into laughter, her perfect face twisted with amusement.
“Oh dear, that makes you filth inside and out. A mongrel’s child, a whore for a mother. Adele, what’s the difference between you and a prostitute? At least they get paid. But you? You’re spending your own money to

“One bastard not enough? Should we stuff you full like a breeding sow?”
A thunderous growl tore from my throat. My wolf lunged forward, rage clouding my vision. My fingers curled around a jagged rock. If I was going down, I was taking them with me.
Before I could strike, Byron’s boot crashed into my stomach.
