This lakeside villa was a wedding gift from Mrs. Carter. We often stayed here for a few days.
Now the huge house was empty, and all my things were gone.
Lucas stumbled into the dressing room, finding a few dresses I hadn’t had time to take away in the corner.
His fingers gently stroked the silk fabric, as if touching some fragile treasure.
He buried his face in the soft material, but could no longer smell the familiar scent of perfume.
He sat on the terrace all night, holding those few pieces of clothing.
His memory was full of images of me snuggling in his arms watching the stars, and the sound of my soft voice sharing my thoughts with him.
“Lucas, when we’re old, let’s still sit here together to watch the lake, the clouds, and the sunset, okay?”
“You accompany me until we’re old, and I’ll accompany you until we’re old. We’ll even get

puppy.”
He turned back dazedly, but could no longer see the girl who used to jump into his arms every morning shouting “Good morning!”
He finally broke down crying, calling my name over and over again.
I rested for a few days in Star City, then started taking over Shaw Industries‘ business in Ocean City.
To shake off the shadows of the past, I changed my name to Emily Shaw.
Having experienced the ups and downs of the business world in my past life, I was no longer the timid Emily Shaw of before.
I used my experience from my past life to formulate a brand new development direction for Shaw Industries.
At the board meeting, those old foxes picked at every detail, waiting to see me make a fool of myself.
But these tricks were child’s play in my eyes.
Just when the atmosphere was most tense, a lazy male voice came from the door.
“Miss Shaw’s vision is indeed unique. Such courage and insight make one can’t help but admire.”
I looked up and couldn’t help but be stunned.
A tall man was standing by the door.
Wearing an exquisitely tailored suit, he smiled with his eyes, but there was an unmistakable sharpness hidden in their depths.
My heart skipped a beat. Wasn’t this Alexander?
He was my brother’s best friend. When I was studying at Cambridge, he was already a prominent figure in the business school.
“Alexander, long time no see. What are you doing here?” I raised an eyebrow.
He glanced at the whispering directors, a playful smile curling his lips:
I’m also one of Shaw Industries‘ shareholders.”
The Shaw family was a well–known wealthy family in Ocean City. He held billions in assets, so why would he bother with Shaw Industries‘
affairs?
He quietly sat down beside me, listening attentively to each of my proposals.
No matter what I said, he was always the first to express agreement, his manners elegant, seeming to both support me and protect me.

After the meeting, when everyone else had left, I turned him:
“Are you free for lunch? Let’s eat together?”
He raised an eyebrow, gladly agreeing.
While waiting for the food, I poured him a glass of wine.
“Alexander, thank you for helping me so much today. Even though it’s for brother’s sake, I’m still very grateful.”
He put down his wine glass, his eyes full of helplessness and indulgence.
“For your brother’s sake?”
He slowly repeated this phrase, looking at me intently.
“Emily Shaw, are you overestimating your brother, or underestimating my intentions?”
