After the art exhibit ended, we had just stepped out of the Art Gallery when Declan’s car approached slowly.
He had asked me several times when he should pick us up. If it were in the past, I would have thought it was a sign of his love and care.

Now I realize he was just using me as a way to keep tabs on his true affection.
Cora spotted some handmade ice cream by the roadside and was eager to try it. Regardless of what happens between Declan and me, sunny, cheerful little girl remains my friend.
I smiled, bought one for her, and handed it to her.
She eagerly took a big bite, her face lighting up with happiness as she enjoyed the ice cream under the blazing sun.
Suddenly, she clutched her stomach, her face contorting in pain. “Phoebe, my stomach…”
“Cora!”

Before I could react, Cora began to collapse. I wasn’t quick enough to catch her, but a swift figure rushed over. The person roughly pushed me aside and caught the staggering Cora.
“Cora, Cora, are you alright?” Declan looked worried, not even noticing he had knocked me to the ground.
Instinctively, I protected my stomach, staring in terror at him, “What are you doing? What did you do to her?”
Declan’s eyes were filled with worry and fear, mixed with undisguised suspicion and hostility towards me.
“I… I did nothing.”
Declan picked Cora up and looked down at me. “Phoebe, you’d better hope Cora is okay, or else…”
With that, he ignored me lying there and left with Cora in his arms.
I thought knowing the truth yesterday was painful enough. Now, being harshly treated by the one I love is truly heart–wrenching. I did nothing!
