Inside, Ethan pressed against me, his long fingers tracing the curves outlined by my dress.
Taking in my every reaction.
He teased languidly:
“He says you don’t like me at all.”
“Is that so?”
I was about to drown in his gentle coaxing.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, my voice trembling like a cicada’s wings: “Mr. Fu, let’s be quieter… there are people outside.”
He straightened my waist:
“Answer the question first”
He was being unusually proactive tonight, almost aggressive.
“Answer the question and I’ll let you go?
My legs were going weak. My whole body’s weight rested on Ethan.
Before things could get worse, I softly answered: “I do like you…”
Ethan’s fingers slid into my hair. He loosened his tie and kissed me hard again.
“If you like me, then let’s continue.”
When we came out of the kitchen, my dress was all wrinkled.
Looking rather disheveled.
A few minutes later, Ethan emerged from behind the door, casually closing the kitchen door.
He still looked impeccable in his suit.
Only the cleaning supplies knocked over in the kitchen bore witness to what had just happened.
Grandfather Fu had gone to the garden to cool off, annoyed.
Everyone else followed.
I pushed open the glass doors to the garden. The cool breeze dispelled the heat on my cheeks.
Nathan was holding forth: “My brother?”
“At his age, he’s past his prime in every way. He can’t keep a woman.”
Ethan certainly didn’t seem past his prime.
Nathan started showing off. “You have to be like me, cultivating a relationship since college.”
“That way no matter how you mistreat her, she’ll come running back like a dog with just a wave of your hand.”
“If I tell her to get divorced, she’ll do it immediately.”
I was about to go argue when I suddenly realized my skirt was being grabbed.
Sophia was curled up in the corner, her eyes red.
“Nathan’s going to marry you now. Happy?”
“Chasing him all the way to a family dinner. You’re so shameless.””
I fell silent.
