71 – Joey
I had never stuck so close to someone as I did to Aoto and
asu in my life.
There were Yakuza.. EVERYWHERE.
And oh my god, Yuka was busy as fuck. He had three meetings within half an hour of arriving and for each one, both Yasu and I were present, because as his physicians it was customary for us to be in the same room as him…. just in case.
Only one of Yuka’s security was allowed though, and even though he was head of it, Alex was only present during one of the meetings, allowing both Sota and then Aoto to be in the other two. Mainly because Aoto complained he wasn’t allowed to do his job if he was sitting outside.
Right now, though, there was a break in between the meetings, and we were gathered in a large hall. I looked around, noticing I wasn’t the only white person there. There were a few women, who were not dressed and eloquently as I, draped off the arms of a few Yakuza soldiers. There were also a couple of men, who were at the bar, and they looked like the typical lawyer types.
Suit, tie, slicked–back hair and misogynistic as fuck.
I looked at Aoto, who was barely a foot away from me. “I want another drink.”
He looked down at me. “What would you like?”
“To go to the bar and see what they have.”
Aoto frowned and turned his gaze toward Alex. He was standing next to Yuka, while Sota stood just to the back of them, protecting them. Alex looked over for a split second, raising an eyebrow and Aoto lifted his arm. “She wants to go to the bar.”
Alex rolled his eyes and lifted his arm, speaking into the mic. Aoto chuckled and nodded.
“Got it.”
too with you.”
The big man turned to me. “Alex said you can go, but I have to go t
1 looked at him, then to Alex, who smirked. “That is not what he said.”
“No. He said you can go, but I have to make sure you don’t drink the whole bar.”
I flipped Alex off, and he chuckled, before turning his attention back to the conversation being had in front of him. “Fine, let’s go.
Moving through the crowd, people moved Aoto was huge, moving like a big bear behind me and attention was definitely on us. Stopping at the bar, I leaned against it, looking at the line of bottles behind the counter. There was so much I could get wasted on. But I had promised Alex this morning, I would behave myself
“Hey sweetheart.”
I turned my head, looking at the group to my left. They were clearly intoxicated and one of them stepped closer. Could they not see the huge Japanese fucker standing on the other side of me? Was Aoto not a deterrent?
“You one of them fancy whores?”
I blinked and heard Aoto literally growl behind me, and I turned to him, shaking my head. “No. Let me handle this.” His jaw clenched, but he nodded.
I turned my He grinned, putting his hand out. “Jackson Mollier. Lawyer of the Eguchi clan.”
my attention back to the man who had asked if I was a whore. “I’m sorry,
who are you?”
I looked at his hand, then raised my gaze back to him. When he realized, I wasn’t going to shake his hand, he frowned. “Oh,
on sweetheart. You have to be a whore to be here. They don’t let pretty white women in here if they aren’t whores.”
come
Again, Aoto grumbled behind me, and I lifted my hand, silencing him.
“Well, that’s news to me.” I said sweetly. “Because I’m actually here with my boss. You know, Yuka Takada.”
The mention of Yuka’s name and the grin started to fade from his face.
“I am his physician in training. Oh, and I’m also here with my partner. Alexander Kazumi.”

If Yuka’s name made him pause, Alex’s, one turned him whiter than he was.
He blinked, “You… you’re with Kazumi?”
“Yes. We fuck. He’s my boyfriend, if that’s what you want to know.” I replied, nodding and looked to the bartender who had materialized at my elbow. “A gin and tonic please.”
I turned my head back to Aoto, who was trying to keep a straight face, now that I was playing this idiot like a fiddle.
“Aoto, anything you’d like?”
“No ma’am.”
The bartender nodded and left to make our drinks, and I turned my attention back to the man in front of me. “So, what were you saying about me being just a whore?”
He lowered his gaze as my drink was deposited at my elbow and I picked it up, thanking the bartender, before turning back
to the men
“Hmm, just what I thought. You definitely live up to being a lawyer, Gutless and a worm. Have a nice day.” I turned and looked at Aoto, who was trying not to laugh. “Come on Aoto, we have more meetings to attend.”
“Yes ma’am.” The big guy followed me back to where we’d left Alex, Sota and Yuka.
1 stopped just shy of my boyfriend and he turned his head and looked at me. Furrowing his eyebrows, he stepped away from Yuka and toward me. His hand came to my hip. “What did you do?”
“She just gave the lawyer, Mollier from Eguchi a dressing down, for assuming she was just a whore.” Aoto said, and Alex looked at me, as I sipped my gin and tonic innocently.
“You what?”
“I held my own, Alex.” I said, “If I am going to be so important in the clan, shouldn’t I start letting people know?”
“Well. Um. Yes, I suppose.” he replied, and I beamed with a little pride. “But doll, you have to be careful who you crow to. Not everyone in here is scared of Yuka”
1 giggled, “but Alex, he wasn’t scared of me working for Yuka.”
Alex’s eyebrows furrowed. “Huh?”
I looked at him and smiled. “He was more frightened of the fact I was with you, that I am your woman”
Alex’s gaze lifted to Aoto and so did mine, as the man nodded. “They were more scared of you, Alex, than Yuka,”
A little smirk came to Alex’s mouth, and he stepped forward, leaning in to whisper in my ear.
“Good girl.” He winked at me. “If they’re scared of the help, they won’t hurt the boss.”
He stepped away and went back to Yuka.
That wasn’t quite what I had planned to happen when I had told him, but whatever. If he felt safer in the room, because some of the Yakuza were scared of him, then I was fine with that.
Watching as Yuka and Alex resumed speaking with various clan leaders, I sipped on my gin and tonic and smiled. I could get used to this line of work
