When Gideon heard me propose a divorce, he was stunned for a moment. Then he defensively started mocking me.
“Adeline, do you even know your place, daring to ask me for a divorce!”
“In City A, countless women want to marry me. You’re ungrateful for the life you have with the Gideon family!”
“Listen to me, without me, you are nothing. I’m giving you a chance to take back what you said, or you’ll definitely regret leaving me!”
I looked at Gideon’s angry expression and calmly said, “Don’t worry, I won’t regret it.”
“I’ve had enough of being Mrs. Gideon.”
I met his eyes directly, “I’ll have a lawyer draft the divorce agreement and send it to you. Please sign it promptly.”
With that, I turned to leave his hospital room.
Before closing the door, I glanced back at Gideon’s darkened face, “By the way, I wish you and Cora a life full of love.”
Ignoring the angry shouts behind me, I didn’t stop as I exited the hospital.
Watching me leave, Gideon suddenly felt something important slipping away from him.
Trying to ignore the unease in his heart, he started wrecking his hospital room in frustration.
He yelled, “Adeline, you sure have guts. I underestimated you!”
Feigning calmness, Gideon stood at the window, watching me leave, and coldly said, “Adeline, without any family, you’ll surely beg for my forgiveness in three days. When you do, don’t blame me for being ruthless!”
With a stifled heart, Gideon returned to the villa.
Watching Cora seductively wiggle her way into his arms, he kept up the facade of flirting with a smile, but inside, he felt empty.
While Cora slept, he found himself standing instinctively at the door of my bedroom.
He shouted in frustration, “Adeline, you’re tougher than I thought. I really underestimated you!”
Gideon stood by the window, trying to appear calm as he watched me leave. He sneered, “Adeline, with no one to turn to, you’ll come back begging for my forgiveness within three days. Don’t blame me for being harsh when that happens.”
Holding back his resentment, Gideon returned to the villa. He saw Cora, with her attractive figure, willingly snuggle into his arms. Although he smiled and flirted with her, his heart felt empty.
When Cora fell asleep, he found himself standing outside my bedroom door without realizing it. Looking at the empty room, he suddenly lay down on the bed I once slept in, inhaling the remnants of my scent.
The deeper he buried his head, the stronger the emptiness in his heart grew. Unspoken feelings stirred within him, prompting him to pick up the phone to call me. He tried to convince himself, “Adeline, I’m just offering you a place to stay out of pity, not admitting I was wrong.”
After convincing himself, Gideon finally pressed the dial button, but all he heard was a mechanical response. “Sorry, the number you have dialed is no longer in service.”
Listening to the cold response, Gideon’s face changed dramatically. He looked at the only photo of us on his phone, comforting himself, “That silly woman just wants to make a fuss.”
“As long as I ignore her, she’ll definitely come back on her own.”
Despite his words, two days later. he saw the divorce papers sent by the lawyer at the company and his emotions collapsed.
<
“If you sign, you can contact me.” With that, the lawyer left immediately.
Looking at the place where I signed, Gideon finally realized that I truly wanted to leave him. I didn’t even want his money and wanted to sever all ties.
Knowing this truth, Gideon slumped in his chair, watching Cora come to the company to find him. Suddenly, he found her presence particularly annoying.
He looked at her innocent face and said mercilessly, “Cora, let’s end this.”
Ignoring Cora’s emotional reaction, he called security to expel her from the company. At the same time, Gideon took out his phone, repeatedly dialing my deactivated number.
“Adeline, where are you?”
“I know I was wrong, please come back to me.”
