A few days later, I successfully saw that white dress on Sophia. She didn’t even try to hide her feelings for Alexander from me.
That was fine – it saved me some effort.
Sophia was posing in front of the mirror when Alexander came home.
His gaze lingered on Sophia for several seconds. He hid it well, but I noticed since I was watching closely.
I had never worn a white dress like that. But I had seen photos of that woman wearing one on Instagram.
The next morning, Alexander left early for the airport, going on a week–long business trip.
After seeing him off, I returned to find Sophia pulling me to sit on the couch, looking serious.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, puzzled.
“Olivia, I don’t know if I should tell you this, but I don’t think I should keep it from you.” She handed me her phone.
It showed a photo of Alexander with another woman. He was leaning down while she whispered in his ear, both smiling intimately.
“Olivia, don’t worry. If Alexander did anything to hurt you, I’ll definitely take your side. Our whole family will support you.”
Support me? Would your family really dare to offend him for my sake? More likely you just want hush money.
I closed the phone and handed it back to Sophia. “It’s nothing. Don’t mention this again. Delete the photo and don’t let your brother–in–law find out.”
“Olivia, please don’t sacrifice yourself. I’ll support whatever you want to do.”
“There’s no sacrifice. Your brother–in–law became an associate professor so young, with his looks and temperament. Everyone says I married up.”
“But Olivia, when a man cheats once, he’ll do it again and again,” Sophia persisted.
I took Sophia’s hand and said resignedly, “You’re my sister, so I’ll be honest. Do you think I could find someone better than your if I got divorced? So it’s better to turn a blind eye to some things.”
If you want to replace me, the breakthrough won’t come from my side.
Sophia, you’ll have to work harder.
