Chapter 14 Did You Divorce for Him
Maybe Donna and Christopher had talked because he came upstairs st. When he saw the suitcases lined up, his voice was untexpectedly hourse. “What’s going on?”
I gave a self–deprecating smile and squeezed my palms. “Christophe we…”
I had made up my mind, knowing there was no turning back. But seeing the person I had loved for seven years, my throat felt blocked, and the word “divorce” became hard to say. I couldn’t tell I was reluctant to leave Christopher or the passionate self I
used to be.
“Hope!” Christopher’s shout cut off my words. He took a few quick steps and hugged me without warning. “This is your home. Why are you packing so many suitcases? Where are you going?”
“Let go!” The scent of wood and women’s perfume filled my nose, making me nauseous. I struggled desperately. “Let go of me, Christopher!”
“No.” His grip was strong, and my struggles seemed insignificant to him. I felt an indescribable sense of helplessness and took a deep breath, “Why? I’m willing to let you go. Can you let me go, too?
Christopher buried his head in my neck, his voice surprisingly tense Hope, I never thought of divorcing you.”
“Really?” I wanted to laugh but couldn’t. My emotions surged, and I shouted hysterically, “But I want to divorce you! I’m tired. I don’t want to live like this anymore! I don’t want a third person in my marriage!“
“It won’t happen again, really.” Christopher held me tightly, then loosened his grip slightly as if afraid of hurting me.
“Won’t happen again?” I took the opportunity to push him away and looked at him with despair. “Did you forget? You said the same thing a week ago. I also said there wouldn’t be a next time.”
Christopher might have thought I was just saying it casually. He didn’t know that I was mostly telling myself. If it happened again, 1 couldn’t continue to fall into this trap.
Christopher closed his eyes. “I know you didn’t push her. You’re not that kind of person. But she lost a lot of blood and needed me to take care of her, so I couldn’t be with you these past few days.”
“I know.” I laughed through my tears. “You know? Do you know she deliberately grabbed me and fell? Do you know she provoked me many times? Do you know she took everything from me and still wants to take you, all with your indulgence?”
“When you left with her, leaving me alone in the cemetery, did you think about me?” I shrugged, trying to make my tone light and calm. “I know her mother saved you. If something happened to her, you couldn’t ignore it. But what about me?”
Under Christopher’s unreadable expression, I continued, “Every time something happens to her, you don’t believe it, but you still indulge her. Why? Christopher, only you know the reason, I can’t guess.”
I sighed, “Whatever the reason, I don’t want to be caught between you two anymore. Christopher, let’s get a divorce.”
As soon as I said that, the air seemed to freeze, Christopher’s tall body stiffened, and his blue eyes locked onto me like a hawk’s. After a moment, he shed his usual gentleness and spoke with a hint of mockery. “Is it because he’s back?”
What?” I was
stunned.
Christopher looked nonchalant. “Cecil.”
That night, wasn’t it him who brought you back? He just returned to the country, and you couldn’t wait to see him. You two were

Despite my efforts to control myself, my face was wet with tears, and then I couldn’t help but laugh. It was too ridiculous. After loving Christopher wholeheartedly for so many years, I ended up with a question: Were you divorcing me for another man?

pulled me way and glared at the stunned Ivan. “What are you standing there for? Move the suitcases! Do you think you’re here to watch a show? _||
Ivan looked at the suitcases, then at me, then at Christopher, and finally at Elissa, feeling utterly helpless. He looked at Christopher again, his voice shaky. “Christopher…”
1 felt a chill down my spine. After a moment, I heard Christopher’s unreadable voice. “Alright.”
Three years of marriage, seven years of love. Ending so ungracefully was something I never expected. When people feel guilty, they tend to look for problems in others first. Christopher was no exception
