Billionaire’s Second Chance: Winning Her Back
Chapter 15 Christopher’s Got Issues
The black Mercedes ensed into traffic.
Ivan, behind the wheel, hesitated before speaking, Tope, are you rely going to divorce Christopher?
“What’s it to you? Just drive, Elissa snapped at Ivan, then turned to me. “You called out of the blue saying you wanted to move, and I couldn’t find a moving company on such short notice, so I asked him to help.
I glanced at Ivan through the rearview mirror. “Once I’m done packing in the next couple of days, I’ll treat you and Elissa to dinner.”
“Sounds good,” Ivan replied with a grin.
“About that incident at the hospital,” I looked at Elissa, curious abo how she had explained it to Ivan.
Elissa winked at me. “I told him I couldn’t stand how Christopher was treating you, so I played a prank to scam him out of some
money.”
“And he believed you?
“Of course he did. He’s pretty gullible,” Elissa scoffed. “He even said shouldn’t take money from others and offered to give me all of
his.
Watching Elissa and Ivan interact lifted my spirits a bit, and I started to relax.
Elissa glanced at the car’s navigation system and sighed, “Are you sure you don’t want to stay at my place?”
-No need.”
Two years ago, on my birthday, Christopher took a few days off to go on a vacation abroad with me. During a layover, he got a call saying Evelyn had run away from home. Christopher left me and rushed back, leaving me stranded at a foreign airport without ID or local currency for three whole days. When he finally returned, he gave me a luxurious villa in the city center as a gift.
It was true what they said: men were most generous when they were guilty. At the time, I didn’t know about his relationship with Evelyn and was just happy that he was trying to coax me. I even oversaw the villa’s renovation myself and hired a cleaner to maintain it weekly. I didn’t realize that now it was the only place I could go.
Overlooking the river, I opened the door to see the skyline across the water, neon lights flickering.
After Ivan brought in the luggage, Elissa shooed him away.
Before leaving, Ivan cheekily asked, “Are you sure you don’t need me to wait in the car?”
“Wait for what? I’m not leaving tonight,” Elissa retorted, pushing him out and shutting the door.
Feeling a bit more at ease, I chuckled, “So, how far have you and he gone?”
Just–a–consensual adult relationship,” Elissa replied, sinking into the sofa and pulling out her phone to order food. She gave me a thumbs up. “Hope, you’ve got guts! You have no idea how shocked I was to see you slap Christopher. I’ve never seen you so angry in all the years I’ve known you.”
1slumped beside Elissa, feeling drained. “I didn’t expect it to get so ugly.”
had imagined a scenario where I asked for a divorce, and he agreed readily, making it simple and dignified.

Elisso asked, “What did he say?”
“He vald… Just thinking about it made me fume, “Tie salit I liked Cell,”
“What!” Elissa shouted in disbelief, “Is he out of his mind? Everyone knows you love Christopher deeply. Even Ivan and the others saw it back in college. It’s bad enough that Christopher doesn’t care bout you, but he was accusing you of liking Cecil while he’s entangled with another woman?”
“That’s why I couldn’t hold back and slapped him.” I said, my eyes downcast, feeling a bit wrong. It felt like seven years of effort had been in vain. Or maybe Christopher, being the golden boy he wiis, tok my affection for granted. His eyes were always on Evelyn, never on me, so he couldn’t even tell who I liked.
Soon, the food arrived. Elissa brought in a bunch of groceries and d the fridge to the brim.
When I tried to help, Elissa swatted my hand away. “Did you forget you’re pregnant? Sit down and relax.”
“I never realized you had a knack for housework,” I laughed,
“Supporting pregnant women starts with me,” Elissa said, efficiently setting the table and handing me utensils, along with a bottle of milk. She opened a can of beer for herself and sipped it slowly.
After a while, Elissa burped and asked, “Hope, do you think there are still good men in this world?”
“Yes,” I replied, recalling my brief childhood memories. My dad was wonderful, and my mom always looked happy.
Elissa squinted, “Then I hope that after you escape this misery, the next man you meet will be a great one.”
She drunkenly hugged my shoulder and continued, “Hope, don’t be sad. What’s the big deal about divorce? If a man doesn’t work out, find another. The world keeps turning, no matter who leaves. You’ll be better off without Christopher. Don’t worry, take care of yourself. When the baby is born, we’ll raise her together. She’ll have double the love, and the love I give her won’t be any less than
that of her lousy father.”
Tears rolled down my cheeks. Elissa’s rambling was both comforting and empowering.
