Chapter 17 Do You Have Feelings for Him?
Hearing Christopher’s words, my head spun, and I felt a bit dizzy. So was the harmony in our three–year marriage just a show Christopher put on under Bentley’s orders? And those shares, he didnt give them to me willingly either.
on the floor. “Is this all my fault?arch your heart. Do you have any feelings for Hope?”
Bentley, furious, banged his cane on
“No! When will you stop meddling in my life?”
Bentley’s question was something I’d been wondering about for the past three years. But the answer was disappointing. Christopher’s response was clear, cutting off my last bit of attachment.
How ridiculous, Hope. In Christopher’s heart, you really meant nothing.
In the office, Bentley had a violent coughing fit, followed by Christopher’s suddenly raised voice, “Bentley!”
I snapped back to reality, rushed to open the door, and saw Bentley clutching his chest, struggling to breathe, His old ailment had flared up. “Help Bentley sit down.”
I quickly walked in and, together with Christopher, helped Bentley down. I then skillfully took the medicine from the inside pocket of Bentley’s coat. “Water, 1 instructed Christopher while pouring out two pills and feeding them to Bentley.
Christopher was surprised to see my practiced movements, like I’d done them a thousand times. “How do you know where Bentley’s medicine is?”
“There are many things you don’t know.” Like Evelyn’s true nature, the fact that I was pregnant with your baby, and that I’d liked you for seven years.
Bentley snapped, “And you have the nerve to talk! Do you know who took care of me when 1 fell ill right after you got married while you were busy with company matters?”
Christopher shot back, “Wasn’t it Dad?”
“Don’t you know your dad is a filial son? Depending on him is sketchier than relying on servants. But no servant is as considerate as
Hope.”
Bentley continued coldly. “The doctor said I could only eat liquid food. She didn’t know how to cook at the time, but she still made different menus for the kitchen. Even the nutritionist said she was thoughtful! The doctor told me to get some sun every day. She knew I wouldn’t listen to the servants, so she came to the hospital every day at a fixed time to push me downstairs to get some sun! Even after I was discharged, she would come to the Valence family manor every few days to check on me. Why does she know where I keep my medicine? Because she instructed the servants always to keep my medicine in my coat pocket.”
Christopher’s lips tightened as he looked at me. “Why didn’t you ever tell me?”
How could 17 When we first got married, we were like strangers. I didn’t know Christopher’s daily whereabouts, and he didn’t care about mine. We barely saw each other a few times a week. Besides, I look care of Bentley because he was good to me, not to earn points with Christopher.
After a while, Bentley’s complexion finally improved a bit. “Bentley, are you okay? Should we call a doctor?” I asked softly.
Bentley waved his hand, gently patted mine, and after regaining song strength, he glared coldly at Christopher. “Don’t even think about divorce. Hope is the wife I chose for you, and she will be the only Mrs. Valence!”
Christopher glanced at me. “I’m not the one who brought up divorce, Why are you mad at me?”

Hope brought it up? Bentley naked.
“Bentley, I did, I said.
Bentley raised his hand and hit Christophor hard on the shoulder, angrily saying, “What did you do? Hope has such a good temper and is so devoted to you, and you made her want a divorce? You better reflect on yourself! I’m telling you, Hope is your only wife. Don’t even think about bringing anyone else home!”
Christopher looked at me helplessly. “How did you win Bentley over Am I his real grandson, or are you his granddaughter?
Bentley scolded forcefully, “I Hope were my granddaughter, I would ever have found her a husband like you! Since you got married, Hope has taken care of everything for you, both at home and outside. Everyone in the Valence family knows she’s the most virtuous and kind–hearted. If you bankrupt the company, I can save with my life. But if you let Hope go, you’ll never find such a good wife again!“
Bentley took a sip of water, pulled our hands together, and placed them on top of each other. His aged eyes seemed to glisten with tears as he patiently asked me in the most loving tone, “Hope, are you really determined to divorce Christopher?”
“Bentley,” 1 hesitated, afraid that Bentley would get sick from anger again.
Bentley just looked at me gently. Just tell me, do you have any feelings for him?”
