Billionaire’s Second Chance: Winning Her Back
Chapter 22 Christopher Apologizes
I said, ‘Flats are more comfortable.”
Ever since I got pregnant, I ditched high heels, I didn’t want to risk anything for the baby,
Christopher paused before asking. “When can the holiday collection art production?”
I looked at him, confused.
While the “F&A” line overseen by the design department was a luxury brand, it hadn’t been a priority for the Valence Group In recent years. Christopher had delegated most of the responsibilities, only requiring updates during meetings without ever asking personally.
What was up with him today? First, it was about high heels, now the holiday collection.
Christopher’s eyes narrowed, a smirk on his lips. “What, I can’t check on my employees‘ work?”
He was really trying to get under my skin.
But I still worked for the Valence Group, and he was the boss. Even if he called me at 3 AM to revise a plan, I’d have to do it.
I sighed, “By next Friday.”
The samples were already done. Once we confirmed the design on Monday, we could push the suppliers to get the materials ready, and the factory could start production.
I really didn’t want to talk to Christopher anymore. “Christopher, stop making small talk. Just sign the divorce papers. All I need is for you to be a decent ex–husband.”
Christopher asked, “And what’s a decent ex–husband supposed to be ke?”
I rolled my eyes. “Like he’s dead.”
My words must’ve hit a nerve because Christopher finally lost interes in chatting.
His face stayed cold as we drove into the driveway, like someone owed him money.
Donna greeted us with a smile. “Mr. Valence is already here, waiting for you.”
I felt a pang of guilt.
I promised Bentley not to get a divorce, but I still moved out to live lsewhere.
1 glanced at Christopher, hoping he’d help explain.
Before I could say anything, he saw right through me and said coldly “Just pretend I’m already dead.”
With his long legs, he left me behind.
54 petty never realized he could hold a grudge like this.
I had no choice but to follow him. Before I could explain, Bentley spoke up with a smile.

Bentley looked at me. “Donna mentioned you mowed nut?”
I nodded. “Yes, Bentley,”
Bentley didn’t seem angry with me. Instead, he glared at Christophe “Useless! Can’t even keep your wife!”
Christopher was helpless. “Bentley, be reasonable. She wanted to me out. What could I do?”
Bentley was furious. “She left, and you didn’t chase after her? You’re useless us your father. He didn’t raise you right.”
“You are my father’s father?” Christopher chuckled.
“Christopher!”
Bentley picked up a coffee cup, ready to throw it, but then put it down. After a moment, he just said, “I’m hungry. Let’s eat.”
Dinner turned out to be quite pleasant.
Bentley kept piling dishes onto my plate until it was overflowing. “Eat more; look at you, you’ve lost weight. You need to put on
some meat”
“Okay, thanks, Bentley.”
Imiled warmly, feeling a surge of affection. No one had shown me this kind of care since my parents passed.
The Beata family was well–off, but at their dinner table, my uncle, Johnson Dylan, and cousin, Ethan Dylan, would always eye my fork. Whenever I reached for a drumstick or any meat, they’d look unhappy.
When I first arrived at Beata’s house, I didn’t notice their dissatisfaction, but after a while, I understood, so I only ate vegetables
from then on.
But now, looking at the abundance of food in front of me, my eyes welled up.
Bentley had this natural authority, but he was always kind to me. “Hope, why are you crying?”
“Nothing.” I shook my head, holding back tears, and smiled. “It’s just that you remind me of my parents.”
“I’ve never met your parents. When can we visit them?” As he spoke, Christopher glanced at me, but Bentley’s face turned stern. “Shut up! With your lack of responsibility, it’s no wonder Hope wants a divorce. She should leave you!*
Christopher was about to argue, but I cut in. “My parents have passed away.”
Christopher murmured, “When…”
“When I was eight.” 1 looked at Christopher like he was a stranger. “you visited their graves fast time, remember?”
I interrupted him not to defend him in front of Bentley but to prevent Bentley from getting too upset.
Still, a pang of sadness hit me.
The tears I held back threatened to spill again.
It wasn’t Christopher’s fault. Bentley arranged our marriage, and Christopher just went through the motions. It was normal he didn’t know about my family.

I tried to console myself.
Christopher’s expression shifted. When I mentioned the cemetery, he realized that the day Evelyn and I fell was when I was visiting my parents.
He had left with Evelyn, the one who hurt me, right in front of my parents graves. His worry and panic were all for Evelyn.
Christopher looked guilty. He couldn’t say much in front of Bentley ‘m sorry, I didn’t know.”
“Sorry? If you’re really sorry, take Hope to the cemetery sometimel Bentley demanded,
I wanted to refuse, but Christopher spoke first, “Of course.”
Then he turned to me, “How about this afternoon? Are you free?”
I answered, “Sure, whatever.”
I didn’t want to argue in front of Bentley.
Bentley finally seemed satisfied with Christopher and warned, “If you bully Hope again and she asks for a divorce, I won’t stop her, You better shape up!”
I handed Bentley a dish and said softly, “Don’t worry, Bentley. He can’t bully me.
After all, the divorce was just around the corner.
