Billionaire’s Second Chance: Winning Her Back
Chapter 29 Should We Call the Cops on Evelyn?
“What’s up?” I forced a bitter smile. Christopher wouldn’t dare mess with me; he couldn’t explain it to Bentley if he did.
Connie sneered in the direction they had left. “Mr. Valence just carried Ms. Valence but like that. Everyone’s speculating about their relationship. Cuild she really be Mr. Valence’s wife?”
Thinking about it, Connie looked at me, worried. “What if she is? You two don’t get along at all. She’ll definitely bully your”
My heart tightened, almost numb. Even though I’d been married to Christopher for three years, no one in the company except Elissa and Donald knew about it. Now, even though we hadn’t divorced, he was openly flaunting his relationship with Evelyn.
Why did he bother holding me last night, saying he never wanted things to turn out this way? Such hypocrisy.
1 pressed my lips together. “It’s fine. When that day comes, I’ll leave
“Take me with you, okay? Wherever you go, I’ll got
“Sure.” I couldn’t help but smile at Connie’s eager expression. Evelyn had a title but did no work. Most of the director and deputy director’s tasks fell on me. By noon, I was too busy to go out for lunch. Connie brought me a steak. As soon as she lifted the lid, a
wave of nausea hit me.
“Hope, you don’t want this? I can get you something else,” Connie offered.
“No, this is fine.”
I suppressed the nausea and forced myself to eat. It was probably ju the morning sickness getting worse. What I really wanted wasn’t available nearby, so there was no point in making a fuss,
Halfway through, I ended up hugging the trash can, throwing up everything, tears and snot streaming down my face. Thankfully, I kept my voice low so no one should’ve heard.
In the evening, just before clocking out, Elissa knocked and walked in.
“I forgot to tell you yesterday, the car dealer called. Your car’s ready Want me to go with you to pick it up?”
Elissa had taken my car for repairs after a fender bender.
“Sure, give me a second to finish this up,” I answered.
Elissa plopped down in the chair in front of my desk, playing on her phone out of boredom. After a while, she suddenly stood up, gasping. “What happened to your neck?”
Startled, I touched my neck and found a mirror. There was a glaring ed mark. Elissa pulled out some lodine swabs from her bag, tied up my hair, and carefully disinfected the area. “How did this happen?”
Evelyn yanked it.”
I briefly explained the situation to Elissa. Upon hearing this, she was furious, cursing non–stop.
“What a piece of work! She had no right to grab it. She’s a thief. We should call the cops on hert
“Why are you always so good at cursing people out?”
Elissa’s rant actually lifted my spirits a bit. She glared at me. “With friend like you, I had to learn.”

She shot me a warning look. “You better move on from him. Don’t waste any more time.”
“I got it.
“Don’t just say it. Mean it.” Elissa was spot on,
“Alright, alright.”
I shut down my computer, grabbed my bag, and nudged Elissa out the door.
“Let’s go. Didn’t you say you’d take me to get my car? After that, dinners on me,” I said.
Our previous director was strict but rarely made us work overtime. That habit stuck, so the office was mostly empty. Elissa, in her high heels, casually draped an arm over my shoulder. “You decide. I respect all of a pregnant woman’s cravings.
“I want Mexican, like the place we used to go in college.”
“Can you handle it?”
I had been craving it all day, I put on a pitiful face. I threw up all my steak at lunch. I’m starving.”
“Alright, alright. Mexican it is.”
Elissa quickly agreed, then playfully shook her fist at my belly. “When this kid comes out, I won’t go easy on him, and I will teach him a lot of things.”
“What if it’s a girl?”
“Then I’ll just have to spoil her!”

to the dealership, we chatted non–stop, mostly about the baby. I was excited, but Elissa seemed even more so. However, my good mood vanished soon after we arrived at the dealership. While paying the bill, Elissa’s sharp eyes spotted two familiar figures. “Isn’t that the jerk and the witch?”
I was momentarily confused, then followed her gaze to see Christopher and Evelyn.
