Billionaire’s Second Chance: Winning Her Back
Chapter 32 The Midnight Knock
Cecil steadied me and asked softly, “You okay? Not hurt, right?”
“I’m fine.
I had twisted my ankle, and it hurt more than I thought. Every step sent a sharp pain shooting through me.
Cecil frowned. “Does it hurt a lot?”
“Not really.”
1 forced a smile and hobbled down the stairs, holding onto the railing. Elissa and Ivan were already downstairs, settling the bill.
1 sighed. “I twisted my ankle. guys go ahead. I need to head home alone.”
Is it bad? Do you need to see a doctor?” Elissa asked, concerned.
“It’s nothing serious.”
I handed my car keys to Elissa. “I can’t drive, so you’ll have to take over.”
“How are you getting home? Should I call a cab, or maybe I should drive you?”
“I can take Hope home,” Cecil suggested, glancing at his watch. “I have a video meeting tonight, so I can’t join you guys for the second round anyway.”
“Perfect,” Ivan said, pulling Elissa along. Take care of her.”
Elissa gave me a call me if you need anything gesture as she was dragged away.
I chuckled and nodded. “Got it.”
With no railing outside, Cecil supported me to the car. “You should really get that checked out, Sprains can be tricky.”
“It’s not that bad,” I laughed. “A night’s rest should do the trick.”
“Wait here for a few minutes,” Cecil said before walking off.
He returned shortly with a bag, got into the driver’s seat, and handed it to me. “If you won’t go to the hospital, at least use some of
this.”
“Thanks,” I said.
Cecil interrupted with a playful smile. “Remember what you promised me the other day?
“Oh, 1 recalled, grinning slyly. “Guess 111 need your help then.”
“You,” Cecil shook his head with a smile and started the car.
The city Nights flickered on as we drove through the evening traffic. The car moved slowly, and an old song played softly on the radio, stirring up my thoughts.
“Hope, are you feeling unwell? Cecil’s gentle voice broke the silence

I was taken aback. Why do you ask?”
“You seemed a bit museous during dinner.”
I was surprised he noticed. Some of the dishes had a strong smell that made me queasy, but I tried to hide it.
I smiled faintly: “Just a little, but it’s nothing.
“Good. Your health comes first,” Cecil said earnestly. “No matter who happens, take care of yourself.
“Okay,” I replied, feeling a warmth in my heart..
I would later understand the full meaning behind Cecil’s words.
We arrived at the Riverside Garden’s underground garage. Cecil helped me out of the car, and I felt a strange unease like we were being watched. A Maybach sped past us, its driver seemingly furious.
Startled, I instinctively protected my stomach and stepped back. If Cecil hadn’t been holding me, I might have fallen.
Cecil made sure I was okay, then glanced at the car with a rare hint of coldness. That was reckless.”
“Maybe they had an emergency,” I said, still shaken.
Since getting pregnant, my first instinct in any situation was to protect my baby. As long as the baby was safe, nothing else mattered
Cecil took me upstairs and then went back out to buy some ice packs. He told me to ice my ankle and avoid walking too much before reluctantly leaving.
I slowly made my way to the balcony and curled up on the couch, ing my swollen ankle.
To me, today had been a series of unfortunate events.
I gazed at the river view, a wry smile on my lips. I wondered if I’d be able to go to work tomorrow. Holding the ice pack in one hand I pulled out my phone and started scrolling through Facebook.
Before long, I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open. I grabbed a blanket and fell asleep right there.
In my drowsiness, I heard a faint, irregular knocking. It was so quiet and sporadic that it sent chills down my spine.
I squeezed my hands, trying to muster the courage to check it out. Just as I was about to get up, a deep, slightly groggy voice came through the door.
“Hope, Hope.”
