Billionaire’s Second Chance: Winning Her Back
Chapter 39 Of Course, I’m Biased Towards My Wife
Is he trying to get back at me for not letting Evelyn slap me earlier? I wondered.
While waiting at a red light, I called him. “Why are you following met
A woman’s mocking laugh came through the phone.
“Hope, you’re so full of yourself.”
It was Evelyn’s voice, soft and smooth. “Christopher’s just worried about me. He’s coming to the police station with me. It has nothing to do with you.”
I paused, feeling like I’d been slapped again.
Evelyn was right. It wasn’t just this time; for the past three years, it was all my wishful thinking.
When I got to the police station, I already knew what Elissa had done and why Evelyn was there so late.
That Porsche Panamera, which was parked at the Valence Group earlier, was now a wreck, its body dented and almost unrecognizable.

Inside the station, a cop led me to Elissa. She was usually so vibrant, but now she sat alone in a corner, her pale wrist supporting her chin, lost in thought.
Hearing footsteps, Elissa turned her head. Her face lit up with a smile upon seeing me.
I walked over, pointing outside. “You did that?”
“Already confessed,” the cop said before Elissa could speak.
I poked her forehead. ” Impulsiveness can land you in hot water, you know.”
“It was payback, for your sake,” Elissa said nonchalantly, standing up slowly and looking at me for help. “My leg’s numb. Help me up.”
I couldn’t help but laugh as I supported her. Before
say anything, Evelyn stormed in, heels clicking.
“Who do you think you are, smashing my car?” she demanded, looking down at Elissa,
Elissa clapped her hands, smirking. “Your Panamera is toast!”
“Elissa, right? This time, I’ll make sure you get what you deserve!” Evelyn fumed, turning to see Christopher in his black trench coat walking in. “Christopher, aren’t you going to do something? They’re bullying me!”
Christopher’s expression was as cold as ever, his trench coat adding his intimidating aura.
As he approached, I felt a pang of anxiety. This could go either way. At worst, Elissa could end up in jail, given Christopher’s influence in Jacquar. And he would definitely side with Evelyn.
Predictably, he stood by Evelyn, his eyes downcast, lips barely moving. “What do you want to do?”
My palms started to sweat. Before Evelyn could speak, Elissa pulled me behind her.

“I’ll handle it. Hope’s out of this..”
“Elissa!” I was frantic, but she looked at me, mocking. “What are you going to do? Beg your ex–husband in public or the mistress who ruined your marriage?”
Before she finished, the tension in the room skyrocketed.
Evelyn sneered. “Who are you calling a mistress? Christopher and I have known each other since childhood. Hope is the true mistress!”
Her words cut deep. According to Evelyn, my three–year marriage was a sham.
I looked at Christopher’s icy blue eyes, forcing a bitter smile. “Is that true, Christopher?”
After loving him for seven years, being called a mistress was a slap in the face. I didn’t care what others thought; I just wanted to know his feelings.
Evelyn clung to his arm, pouting. “Isn’t it tru
true, Christopher?”
“Enough,” Christopher said, frowning
as h
pulled his arm away. “It’s just a car. We’ll get another one tomorrow.”
I was stunned. ‘Is Christopher not going to stand up for Evelyn?‘ I thought.
Evelyn, of course, wasn’t having it. “It’s not that simple! They did it to humiliate me!”
Christopher glanced at her, his voice cold. “Didn’t you slap Hope earlier tonight?”
His words surprised not just me but Elissa too. We exchanged confused looks.
Is Christopher defending me?‘ I thought.
Even though Evelyn was taken aback, she wasn’t about to let it go. That’s different! You’re clearly biased towards her.”
“She’s my wife. Of course, I’m biased towards her,” Christopher said calmly.
