llionaire’s Second Chance: Winning Her Back
Chapter 40 He Won’t Fall for Me
I froze, unable to believe Christopher was actually siding with me.
I lowered my gaze, hardly daring to believe it.
Evelyn’s face twisted for a moment before she regained her composue. “But you’re still divorcing her for me.”
Christopher’s expression was icy. “Evelyn, who told you that I…”
“Isn’t it true?” Evelyn cut him off, defiant.
I swallowed my bitterness, not wanting to hear their argument. I looked at Christopher. “You’re sure you’re not going to press charges about today, right?”
“That’s my car. You should be asking me,” Evelyn snapped.
“With his money, right?” I shot back, standing tall. “We’re still married. If he bought you that car with marital assets, I can legally reclaim it. I’d advise you to back off.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, this isn’t your call to make.”
I only needed Christopher to relent on this matter. Evelyn had no say.
Evelyn’s eyes flashed with anger, as if she wanted to tear me apart. She turned to Christopher, frowning. “Your wonderful wife is really something, so petty and domineering.”
I didn’t want to stay and embarrass myself further. “Christopher, since you’re not pressing charges,
we’ll be leaving.”
With that, I took Elissa to handle the paperwork and left quickly. As we walked away, I could still hear Evelyn’s nagging voice. “Christopher, living with her for three years must have been exhausting for you. If it weren’t for Bentley’s stubbornness, you wouldn’t have to put up with this.”
Elissa was fuming. If I hadn’t held her back, she would’ve gone back to argue.
It started raining at some point, the autumn wind chilling us to the bone. We hurried

Once inside, Elissa fumed, “Why’d you stop me? Didn’t you hear what she said? She’s got issues. Lunatics.”

“I heard,” I sighed, starting the car and pulling onto the road. “Christopher’s unpredictable. I just wanted to g

There was no point in arguing with Evelyn.
“Aren’t you mad? Elissa asked.
“Not really.”
It wasn’t that I wasn’t mad; I was just used to it.
At this hour, Jacquar’s nightlife was just beginning. The streets were packed, traffic crawling.

Elissa suddenly grinned, leaning over to me. “Happy now?”
“Happy about what?”
“Seeing her car smashed to bits. Happy?”
I thought for a moment and didn’t deny my dark satisfaction. “Yeah, happy.”
When Evelyn parked the identical car next to mine, it felt like she was staking her claim. Seeing it wrecked outside the police station, I was too worried about Elissa to feel joy. But now, thinking back, I felt a rush of satisfaction.
“Good,” Elissa smirked.
I chuckled, “But you can’t be so impulsive again.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know.”
“Don’t brush me off.”

“I’m not! I always listen to you.”
I couldn’t help but smile. Dropping her off at her place, I said softly, “Elissa, you really can’t be impulsive again. What if Christopher decides to stand up for Evelyn?”
“Do you think I’m stupid?” Elissa grinned slyly. “I’ve got Ivan, remember?”
I had forgotten about her and Ivan! Realizing she had a plan all along, I felt relieved.
“Alright, guess I worried for nothing,” I laughed.
“Just focus on taking care of yourself and the baby,” Elissa said, nodding at my belly. “I won’t let myself end up in jail. Who’d protect you and the baby then?”
She paused, then asked, “But why did Christopher stand up for you today?”
I was silent for a moment. “I don’t know.”
“Maybe he realized he loves you after losing you?” Elissa suggested, silly grin on her face.
“Not a chance,” I said, shaking my head. “He won’t fall for me.”
“How’d you end up pregnant if he doesn’t?”
It took me a moment to catch on. I glared at her and shooed her out of the car. “Get lost!”
On the way back to Riverside Garden, Elissa’s question kept popping into my mind. I kept dismissing it.
Christopher wouldn’t fall for me. After spending over a thousand days and nights together, he never did. Why would he now?‘ I thought.

But as I stepped out of the elevator and saw him standing at my door, that thought shattered again.
Elisa’s question echoed in my mind.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, noticing the black suitcase matching his outfit.

In the bright light, Christopher’s tall figure seemed less rigid, his voice soft and gentle. “I came to see you.”
I looked at the suitcase. “With luggage
“Moving in, by the way,” he said.
