In a daze, I thought of the past.
At that time, Christopher and I had just been married for half a year. My period was delayed by about ten days. Even though he always used protection, I still suspected that I might be pregnant.

I took a deep breath and walked out of the hospital.
“If I change it now, it will be very easy.”
I called Elissa, and she quickly answered the phone. “I was just about to call you. Where are you? Why didn’t you come to work?
What happened last night? Why did your phone suddenly shut down Nothing happened between you and Christopher, right?`
She was very anxious and asked many questions.
I didn’t know how to respond to her.
I choose to answer her first question. “I am at Messlushi Hospital.”
“Did you go for your prenatal check–up? You should tell me so I can accompany you.”
Elissa always managed to grasp the key points immediately. “No, this is the hospital under the Valence Group. How did you end up there?”
I explained to her briefly. However, when I came out of the ultrasound room, Christopher had already left.

I walked to the side of the road and hailed a taxi. After getting in, leaned back against the seat. “Elissa, I felt confused.”
I wanted to modify the inspection report.

`I kept recalling the doctor’s words.
I wonder, Could he possibly change his mind because of
my pregnancy?

Elissa thought for a moment and asked, “Are you wondering if he will leave Evelyn because you have a child?”
I didn’t hide anything. “Yes, am I really stupid?”

“Yes, I have made up my mind.”
If things were to unfold unexpectedly, I would disappear.
I would avoid all possibility of losing my child.
After this decision, I lost the desire to go home and cook. After eating pasta casually downstairs in the neighborhood, I went back home and lay down on the sofa.
As I waited for Christopher to return, I worked diligently, holding my laptop close, fully immersed in my tasks.
By afternoon, there was still no movement at the door.
I couldn’t help but message Christopher.

No one replied.
What urgent matter made him so busy? Elissa should have mentioned on the phone if the company was in trouble.
